Too bad Kanye--who's also a fan--already used the title last fall, because Goblin is one Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy.

Tyler, the Creator still achieves an engrossing dystopian vision of Hip Hop that refuses to compromise to what fans and industry critics demand of him.

This album then delivers anger, honesty and arrogance, all in sporadic scatter-gun fashion: the overriding feeling is confused, uncertain, often unreasonable, but ultimately well intentioned.

If Tyler's lyrics are early-Eminem evil, his offhandedly lush, left-field R&B-tinged tracks are like strips of light sneaking through the cracks of a lunatic's drawn blinds.

At first listen, you'll think this album is a disappointment and didn't live up to the hype. And maybe it didn't, but this isn't Bastard--it's an album with a much deeper theme and message, with just enough blood-thirsty lines and misogyny to hold the kids over.

It's a shame that the the young skate rat seems to be so caught up in his own hype, as beneath the bluster and amped-up angst, there is something interesting going on. [Jul 2011, p.54]

Goblin is the messy schizoid splatter painting of the child we've raised and ruined, and it's coherent only as a hopeless plea for us to expect nothing from him again.

Some of the tracks just seem like filler, and I was disappointed to see that one of the 3 bonus tracks was some minute long instrumental. Other than that though, this is a very solid album for someone who produced the previous one on his own. Golden is by far the best and hardest hitting song on the album, i wish there was another like it. Expand

The go toIf Prince Paul's Psychoanalysis: What Is It had a love child with the Gravediggaz 6 Feet Deep album, you'd have Tyler the Creator. The go to track is "Yonkers" which is tight. People are either way too on Tyler and Odd Future or too shocked by the lyrics and obligated to hate on it. Consequently you're going to see a lot of extreme reactions to this album. In truth, this is a creative first effort that feels like a first effort. The album is a little on the long side so if you're not a hardcore fan, download the 5 most listened to tracks on iTunes and you'll probably be more than satisfied. A great first effort, and the heads should definitely pick it up. Just don't buy into the extreme reviews, on either the 10 or the 0 side. Tyler has a bright future and I can't wait to see what he does next. Expand
