Gracious Tide, Take Me Home is a luminous, lilting, lovely debut album, and a perfect mood piece as the nights begin to draw in.

It's deeply dreamy pop, not unlike Beach House (with whom Lanterns share a UK label in Bella Union) or Mazzy Star, though their songwriting isn't quite up to snuff with either of those.

As a debut, as a mark in the sand, Gracious Tide, Take Me Home is an endearing and beautifully drawn modern folk record

Gracious Tide stays with you like a dream you wish would keep recurring.

Luckily, the majority of Gracious Tide, Take Me Home plays to the band's beautifully swooning strengths, and in doing so, produces one of the most majestic debuts from a British act this year.

Gracious Tide, Take Me Home is a frequently stunning and achingly earnest debut effort whose sugary gossamer moments find themselves perfectly underlined with a bitterly sad aesthetic, but it would definitely benefit from the rougher edges that the band bring to their live show.

Paul Gregory's crackling electronic interventions and homespun production job--listen out for the creaking floorboards in Keep on Trying--do much to roughen the edges, but not enough to give this perfect music real character.

Blanket Of Leaves oozes rueful, autumnal soulfulness; you can almost feel the sea fret during the minimally arranged Ships In The Rain; only A Kingdom, with busy snare drums, hoedown fiddles and raindrop guitars, approaches anything like vigour, offering a welcome change to the mood of wistful languor. No, the elements Lanterns on the Lake are using are not new or novel ones, yet something fresh is still at work here.

Another great find from Bella Union, there's not a weak moment on this engaging debut. [Oct 2011, p.124]

This is folk music given the widescreen treatment and a crisp, modern sheen. [Oct 2011, p.91]
