Their most complete-sounding disc to date. [Mar 2004, p.91]
  2. To these ears, the Get Up Kids have finally arrived.

Dark but guitar-driven, it proves [On A Wire's] soft sentiment might have worked better with a little more hard rock. [5 Mar 2004, p.68]
  4. Tellingly, the consistently likable Guilt Show falters only when The Get Up Kids overextend their grasp and depart from their nearly infallible pop formula, as on the “experimental” claptrap of the album’s last two tracks.
  5. 60
Paired with the Kids’ fidelity to verse/chorus pop, Pryor’s boyishly confident, hopeful delivery can sound pro forma, even mindless.
  6. The Get Up Kids relies on classic pop arrangements (piano accents, acoustic bridges, moody electronic/orchestral interludes, and climactic choruses) to bring a touch of class to what might otherwise be standard half-hook emo, faintly catchy but fundamentally unmemorable.
  7. Pryor delivers wounded-boy bromides that are so shopworn, they sound indifferent.

I think this not only the best TGUK CD so far, but its so good that i hold hope it might get some sort of grammy nod. It mixs the punk heavy I think this not only the best TGUK CD so far, but its so good that i hold hope it might get some sort of grammy nod. It mixs the punk heavy sound of STWHA with the lyrical wonder of on a wire, and hit a home run. They also made a brilliant move by allowing James Dewees more freedom with his keybord, and that in my opinion is what pushes this to a ten. A MUST buy for fans, and even for people who haven't heard them before Expand

Good but not excellent, midway between On a Wire and Something to Write Home About. Poppy but still slightly experimental indie. No doubt Good but not excellent, midway between On a Wire and Something to Write Home About. Poppy but still slightly experimental indie. No doubt they are best with Pop, but back off on it. If you want bouncy sing-along all the time listen to Sum 41 and Simple Plan. And bob p needs to stop crying, their band not his, and a band tends to evolve. Expand

"I wish I had an extra set of hands so I could give it four thumbs down!" Shit this album is boring. I used to be a big GUK fan until the "I wish I had an extra set of hands so I could give it four thumbs down!" Shit this album is boring. I used to be a big GUK fan until the shit-storm what was "On a Wire". This is a step towrds the right direction, but come on... Where are the hooks? Where's the sing-along choruses? Where's the bouncy guitar riffs? You guys are a pop-band. Don't try to be something you're not. If you want to reinvent yourselves, just change your name and stop sullying what the get up kids had been. Expand
