  • Summary: The queen of pop's latest and last release on the Warner Brothers label was produced in part by Nate "Danja" Hills, Timbaland, Justin Timberlake, and Pharrell Williams.
Score distribution:

  2. Negative: 0 out of 24
  1. Candy finds her dropping her Kabbalah string on the dance floor and readopting an American accent to offer up an unpretentious, nonstop dance party.
  2. Thanks to the blunt force of her personality, Hard Candy feels perfectly concerted, without a whiff of desperation.
  3. Even when she wrestles with Pharrell's abrupt stylistic changes or lets herself get absorbed in a Timberlake melody, Madonna still finds her way back on top.
  4. Hard Candy is the sound of pop's ultimate superbrand consolidating her success. [June 2008, p.134]
  5. Hard Candy is a serviceable and sometimes very good pop album that also happens to be a confusing and even dismal Madonna album.
  6. This time, Madonna is just another singer drawing on the chart appeal of Timbaland, Timberlake and Pharrell, which makes this particular piece of candy taste like a sour ball: It's appealing to fans, but it's not for everyone.
  7. Hard Candy sounds bloody expensive, but has precious little to declare except an infatuation with its own reflection in a nightclub mirror.

An amazing album with only a few flaws. Spanish Lesson is trite and Candy Shop should have been MIA because it doesn't it isn't as fresh as the rest of the album; some of us have had the track since last summer. LOVE Give It 2 Me and Dance 2night. Expand

Fantastic considering the worst song on the album was a number 1 Hit!

Every song has something great to offer and you won´t stop dancing...it´s not a producers album. Madonna´s stamp is all over the place. Expand

It's not her best album but it is good!

Not a bad record, but not great either. After becoming relevant again with Confessions, Madonna has lost some momentum. By the way, folks, perfect scores should be reserved for transcendent works -- this one simply doesn't qualify. Expand

She's now old enough to be a grandma, which is why her childish need for attention and shock is so pathetic... and thanks again for ruining Guy Richie's career. Expand
