Hell Can Wait is Vince Staples’ best short release to date and his true-to-form introduction as a Def Jam artist. It’s proof that he can improve for a new audience without compromising to reach them.

Hell Can Wait is a dense and rewarding EP from a rapper who is refreshingly serious about his craft.

Even a casual listener could hear the spark--Staples' first fame came from getting the best of known mic terrorist Earl Sweatshirt--his production values have finally caught up enough to push him past the scrappy sidekick division into the big leagues.

The growth is unmistakable, with each song and new project, fans see his raw talent getting more finely tuned and concentrated. Hell Can Wait is the next step in the maturation process of Staples as a MC.

Hell Can Wait succeeds as a reintroduction of sorts, showing Staples as a more focused and forward-moving artist who will surely outlive "them red roses."

Coming in at 24 minutes and with seven cuts on the track list, this is EP-sized and not long enough for the full artist picture, but that said, there's no filler, either.

He understand how to make hooks that are catchy but not 2 chains simple. The flow is ok. even though the pace and intensity of the flow does not change too much from song to song. His biggest issue is lyrical complexity. There is just not enough content on there to carry the whole album. Yet, in all, this is easily top 10 albums this year. This album, I see, as more of a raising action in his career than a climax. Full Review »
