Heroes may be elegiac, but it's as spirited as it is poignant. [Jun 2012, p.70]
  2. I decided that Lukas's stoned-hillbilly affect was just what his dad needed to distinguish this particular assortment of what-thes, why-hasn't-he-evers, and written-to-orders from rival entries in his unchartable catalogue.

The playing is lovely, lilting and delicate.

Makes you long for more Willie, less Willie and Friends.

Maybe not vintage Willie, but entertaining enough. [Jul 2012, p.107]

While Heroes adds some essential songs to his canon and certainly doesn't diminish his legacy, it ultimately lacks enough of what makes Willie Nelson albums so enjoyable: Willie Nelson himself.

Inconsistency and lack of focus mars Heroes, which relies too heavily on misguided collaborations that don't add anything of value to the album.
