Not only is it moving, it's arguably one if the best records Chris has made in the last 15 years. [26 Sep 2015, p.53]

While Higher Truth never seems as self-consciously confessional as Euphoria Mourning, this mellow simplicity is an attribute: a relaxed Cornell creates a comforting mood piece that's enveloping in its warmth.

The arrangements are pleasingly stripped back--perhaps too much so for those powerful. [Nov 2015, p.73]

For the most part, this is the balance of power and intimacy Cornell has always wanted his solo music to have.

Higher Truth may not quite reach the heights of his best work, but it ensures that Scream was no more than a blip in his solid back catalogue.

It’s all a bit glazed over, grungeless, too well finished, lacking the sense of suppurating wounds.

Things go awry soon after ["Nearly Forgot My Broken Heart"], though thanks to a less-than-sparkling production from Brendan O'Brien and Cornell's overly sentimental lyrics. [Nov 2015, p.106]

Going from the far from "excellent" Scream to Higher Truth is like a breathe of fresh air. Each song has the exact quality of musicianship and songwriting expertise that one would expect from Cornell. The album is a perfect mixture between "Euphoria Mourning" and his live "Songbook" album. I can't pick a personal favorite on the album because I like each song more and more every time I listen. I very much recommend this album to anyone who enjoys singer-songwriting style of music. Cornell's music is only getting better with age. Expand

It does have a great Euphoria Mourning vibe to it, as that was his most exceptional solo work to date. Nevertheless, I am glad Chris is back to his old roots, as it is a real breath of fresh air, and I've heard that Soundgarden are going to release an album next year. This album deserves more than just a 66. Expand

I'm giving him a lot of credit for this album since he brought back some roots. The ascoutic aspect of the album wasn't a bad move. It at least made him feel comfortable and made a move to go to Brendan O'Brien to make an album on what he wanted. Congrats Chris! Also, hoping for another great album from Soundgarden next year! Chris Cornell received lots of success on his Songbook tour and I enjoyed the live album that was recorded during those shows, but I was not expecting him to take the thought any further. Higher Truth is a nice easy listen that is also a breath of fresh air. I was a little worried that Cornell would be trying to do a Neil Young impression throughout this album but that is not the case. He created his own sound for this album and he has written some of his best lyrics in a long time for this album. I like the idea to go back to bare bones after he definitely overproduced Scream. The one thing that drags Higher Truth down is that I find that later on in the album there are a couple songs that are not as strong after the first 8-9 songs were consistently great. I think that this album maybe should have been 10 songs instead of 12 but I do recommend it. One of my favorite albums this year. Expand

The tracks go well together and there are some radio friendly tracks in there as well such as "Nearly forgot my broken heart", "Higher truth" and "Our time in the universe". Expand
