This is one of the most consistently good albums I've heard this year. Lovely stuff.

What a year 2006 has been for country-tinged alternative Goddess solo records! First Jenny Lewis, then Neko Case, and now this. All three rank among the best records of the year. Great record.

Millan's Honey From The Tombs more than satisfies with its folk/country (yes, more folk than country) melodies and her trademark vocals. While a few of these songs could have fit someone with a more grizzled voice better, with her voice, that's a minor complaint. The more alternative-oriented "Skinny Boy," "Headsfull," and "All the Miles" add variety. Believe the hype!

  1. Honey's more fleshed-out productions show Millan has the ability to be engaging on her own, but they are too scarce to make this album anything more than a humble footnote.

She sings [everything] so prettily that you wonder just how authentic her misery really is. [Aug 2006, p.113]
  3. Pop fans will think it's a country album, country purists will deem it pop and contributions from friends in both Stars and Broken Social Scene adds a conflicting rock slant. What's not in doubt is that Millan makes it work.
