It's rocky Americana: swaggering and infuriatingly satisfying. [Apr 2011, p.97]

Hope St. certainly won't be the most fashionable or credible album of 2011, but it's a consistently strong collection of old-school tunes which will provide the ideal soundtrack for any road trip, whether it's to California or to Cowdenbeath.

Hope St. is an expertly crafted burst of energy. [May 2011, p.119]

The real problem is the corporate production--the cleaner and slicker it gets, the flatter each song sounds. [May 2011, p.86]

Their problem is a lack of originality: they never suggest they'll find a new angle on well-worn roots-rock modes.

It is, essentially, a pop record to stick on and sing along to. If that was Kassidy's aim, to have fun and make people dance, they've undoubtedly succeeded. But don't come looking here for anything more profound than that.

Kassidy have proved they're as serious about recording as they are performing and if their debut album is any indication, they're in it for the long haul.

It's all pleasant enough, but is clearly trying to be something it isn't, coming off rather shallow and lightweight as a result.

It's all unobjectionable, but it's hardly inspired or inspiring.

Coated with a West Coast varnish and filled with radio-friendly melodies Hope St will provide great background music for warm evenings in the garden. With continued listening, however, it's liable to leave you cold.
  11. [They] not only resemble hoity-toity Fields Of The Nephilim lookalikes but are just as godawful to listen to.

The main feeling one gets when one plays Hope St. is that Kassidy is having a great time making music. The album is bursting with enthusiasm and energy. With Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young four part harmonies (with beards to match) and catchy songs you'll be singing Kassidy for a long time to come. Full Review »
