MaxGMar 5, 200710Awesome album. A must buy for any U2 fan.
-
-
AristonBSep 21, 20093The worst album of U2. They could tour without this crap. Maybe 3 songs worth listening. New low.
-
-
tylerkJun 24, 20084Marginal. U2 used to have a distinct sound. This blends nicely with the proliferation of mediocrity on the radio. Possibly the weakest lyrics on any U2 record, "I'll give you everything that you want..except the thing that you want" Everything after zooropa has been marginal at best.

-
SylvainJan 1, 20059Strangely, I was disappointed at first, but grew to love this album after several listens. U2 is the most astonishingly consistent group in the world, and they have done it again with a collection of beautiful and moving songs. Buy it.

-
DaniJan 1, 200510Instant classic without really weak songs. City of Blinding Lights, Original of The Species, Miracle Drug...amazing songs.

CesarEDec 3, 200410At the same level than Joshua and Achtung, U2 has crafted an true classic for the ages. You NEED to have this album.

-
LorenzODec 3, 20048It's pretty damn good. Some truly affecting moments, a lot of good solid stuff and not a lot of filler. Works for me.
-
-
JohnoFeb 18, 20058After getting over the initial thrill/disappointment I have returned to this album and found it as good as Achtung Baby, but not as good as Joshua Tree. That Ricardo bloke really wants to shag Bono, doesn't he?
-
-
SidKFeb 24, 20050A senseless attempt to 'Return to their roots' or some other nonsense. No creativity, no soul, there´s absolutely nothing original here.

RodrigoMJul 3, 20054Half of the songs sound like U2 repeating the same song over and over. Plus the production just doesn't help the record which falls short on almost every aspect. There's still a few songs that stand over mediocrity, but they're not enough to save this album from being one of the worst U2 releases.

-
FredericoOAug 27, 200510very good U2 album! city of blinding lights is the best song of the all record
-
-
CarloscarlosApr 1, 200610Perfect. The best album since Achtung Baby (1991). The sound of the guitar in Miracle Drug, Sometimes You Can't Make... or in Original Of The Species is wonderful and lyrical. Not bad songs, only pure music.
-

PignoahJan 9, 20081Mundane, repetitive, pretentious and phony musical trash.

-
KellyDNov 22, 200410Vertigo was not a good single to represent this album... thank goodness, I could not stand 10 Vertigo style songs. Instead we got heart and soul and passion, just what I expect from them. Won't be able to say for a while whether this is one of their best... have to hear the songs live first, then I'll know.

ChrisMDec 20, 20049I was dissapointed a little the first couple listens - but this CD just grows and grows. 9.5 would be my actual rating. Sometimes You Can't Make It On Your Own is right up there with Bad, One, Streets as one of their best.

JonHFeb 2, 20056I was going to write a big paragraph about why i think this is just a so-so album but then i read Andrew's review, and he pretty much said everything I wanted to say.

AllanFFeb 4, 200510Not a bad track on this album. One of their top 3 or 4 best albums ever....need to hear some or all these songs livewhich sometimes give their music even more life, and more ever lasting and soulful. Well done !
-
-
TaylorBFeb 5, 200510Just listen to the cd and you'll understand.
-
-
HugheOFeb 5, 200510This is the most sentimental and symbolic album U2 I have ever heard. And trust me, I've heard many. Yahweh is much more than just a slow crap - it is deep enough to make you think. Sometimes You Can't Make It on Your Own is just a tear gas. These are the songs that shook the reputation of the punky-shmunky-nonsense band. Listen and ye shall understand.
-
-
arielbFeb 8, 20052I cant believe critics and fans alike are still buying the old rehash sound of this album.....Cmon guys...apart from 'Vertigo" it really sounds like a tweek songs from old u2 albums...every songs sounds familiar...they're given to much credit for nothing. I felt bad for buying the cd.

-
DavidWMar 1, 20068Legends...of faith, hope, and love. Grace. Maybe not as "cool" as the use to be, but still have more soul in their big toes than a million other band combined. Good songs from an unforgettable fire.

GeorgeC.Feb 7, 20080Totally irrelevant. U2 hasn't made a good record since War. If these guys aren't careful... in 5 years they're going to end up opening for Hinder or Nickelback on a tour of gay biker bars... in Bulgaria.

ElvisdPBNov 22, 200410The best U2 since Achtung Baby!
-
-
SimonPNov 22, 20049Forget the fact that this is U2 sounding like U2. This is an album of great songs with not a duff track among them. Their best album since Achtung baby.

SantiagoNov 23, 200410De nada sirve la critica especializada, cuando no tienen idea de la musica. Todos dicen que Pop, fue el pero album, y sin duda fue uno de los mejores. Este, es el otro grande junto a Joshua y Atchung.
-
-
RickBNov 23, 20048Better than 2000's All That You Can't Leave Behind and possibly their best album since Actung Baby. This band does not get old, only better. I do believe that they are the greatest band since the Beatles and quite possibly in due time may have much more influence than the Fab Four from Liverpool.
-
-
SteveNov 23, 20043the moments of past charm are lost. a predictably inconsistant cd that has become U2's trademark. difficult to listen to from start to finish.

MikeCNov 25, 200410Fantastic, perfect U2 execution. Wonderful listening - had me enthralled from the first listen and it hasn't stopped spinning in my CD player since.
-
-
KoenDNov 25, 20045Iy's so good to see at least some people giving this CD a lower score. It's not that I think it is bad, it is just that this is not vintage U2. U2 had their great moments with achtung baby, but over the last few years they have definitely lost it. Come on people, don't go along ith the hype and rate this CD for what it really is: another mediocre U2 album

chris2004Dec 17, 20044I'm sorry, folks. BORING!! I'm really disappointed, cos I expected something special (...with all that reviews saying "Joshua Tree returns"). 3-4 good tracks (say All Because Of You, Love And Peace Or Else) and that's all. The rest's just rubbish. This is absolutely no match to Joshua Tree or Achtung Baby.
-
-
JayBDec 4, 20049It's superb, has the 'feel' of the Joshua Tree which is the greatest album ever IMO. This CD rocks. "Fast Cars" is my favourite, irony & humour. Long live the boys of Lypton Village!
-

SamDOct 11, 20058one of the better albums of 2004 nowhere near best. top 50 spot, like maybe 29. sometimes you cant make on your own overrated, miracle drug, yahweh and love and peace or else severely underrated
-
-
bobgJan 1, 20057Quality album, but lacks something you'd expect from U2. Nevertheless, well worth the purchase. You will find at least 2-3 songs that you will enjoy! Regardless, U2's weaker albums still rank high, relative to their peers.

DavidofthehoodJan 23, 20059this is U2 at its core -- remarkably they never lost their roots so much as they have reconfirmed them. Many years and worldly experiences later -- they have honed their craft, but they remain a deeply committed, spiritual, anthem-ready, rock band.

LarsJFeb 10, 20057Gotta agree with Andrew on this one. It´s an ok, easy-listening sort of album, but in no way compares to either Joshua tree or Achtung baby. I don´t get why the band themselves kept calling this their best work -even for fans, this is average U2. (Which is still pretty good, but not their best work by a longshot)
-
-
This time, Steve Lillywhite and the other producers assembled simply construct a U2 album in miniature, mixing in the Edge's processed-guitar trademark whenever you fear they're straying into unforgivable un-U2ness. That's just not enough.
-
This is grandiose music from grandiose men, sweatlessly confident in the execution of their duties.
-
While the rest of the album fails to live up to the breadth of "City" and "Crumbs," and while it takes serious missteps on the shockingly bad "Man and a Woman" and "Yahweh," this is, by and large, an album to be thankful for, regardless of your demographic.
