As she meanders through disappointment and hope, with pedal steel, accordion and strings focusing emotion, Mandell channels Nilsson and Newman to make a lasting impression. [No.89, p.56]

Immaculately produced and performed, I Can See the Future is chock-full of breezy, likable retro-pop that's made for people who like their nostalgia delivered through the wonders of modern fidelity, and while it may put off, at first, those with a predilection for Mandell's darker side, it won't take but a spin or two make them see the light.

It's beautifully conceived, timeless music perfect for pity parties, languid Sunday mornings or times when introspection doesn't need to mean wallowing in sorrow.

Another cohesive set that plums the same territory songwriters have spent centuries on, - that Mandell can still rivet our attention is testament to a great songstress.

Though I Can See the Future marks a new phase of Mandell's life, and, in turn, her songwriting, she is still as adept as ever crafting compelling storylines, as well as using her voice's versatility and nuance to breathe another dimension into her songs.

Intense... If you are made of stronger stuff than this reviewer, and you can stand up to intelligent songs sung beautifully without dissolving [into a puddle of emotion], then this might be your summer jam.
