  1. As with past NoW releases, In a Space Outta Sound boasts an emphasis on sound architecture that requires expensive stereo equipment (or bucket loads of narcotics) to fully appreciate.
  2. In my experience, there have been few albums such as In A Space Outta Sound that I have heard within the realm of electronica, where a musical palette was spread so broadly while still managing to sound like part of the same project.

There are but three words to describe the sixth album from [Nightmares On Wax]... "repetition"... "derivative"... "listless."[#71, p.108]

A mixture of old-school smarts and mellifluous modernism. [Apr 2006, p.103]
  5. Sadly the two best (read: different) tracks come at the end, a shame because you'll have probably put on something closer to actual music by then.
  6. But for every misstep early in the album, the final tracks deliver a compelling argument in favor of Evelyn’s continued creative relevance.
  7. It's a perfect chill-out record, readymade for a sunny day or starry night, and it straddles the line between evolving style and signature sound brilliantly.
  8. A feeling of "not a lot happening" pervades. [Apr 2006, p.118]
  9. In a Space Outta Sound eschews froth - and a whole lot more - in favour of a minimalist approach that is a return to the form of his 1990s output.
  10. Outta Sound shows a passionate and maturing George Evelyn that still had much to offer.
  11. 70
Smoothes the edges between Jamaican sound-system bass, calypso rhythm, Middle Eastern melody and vintage soul. [Apr 2006, p.110]
  12. In A Space Outta Sound spits some pretty standard jazzy hip-hop sounds, but for a lazy Sunday afternoon it could serve as a funky, stony soundtrack. [#13, p.98]
  13. 70
Some of the rawest sounds of his career. [Apr 2006, p.90]

So beautiful. I cannot understand the harsh criticism and the bad reviews. The sound of this album is so unique and all I want to do is lay on the sofa and melt in my seat. Full Review »

loved the last NoW...but this one, with loops & sections that go on far too long, with not much happening and little evolutuion, are, not chilled but frozen. he phoned this one in. for great, warm, evolving, equally long but infinitely better chillout tracks, check out "Coal Coal Black" by Shinjuku Zulu or "Black Swan" by Thom Yorke or "Summer's Gonna Hurt You" by Diplo...just not anything not from this album. truly disappointing.
