"In My Mind" sometimes settles for the conventional, but overall this one is too hot to drop. [23 Jul 2006]
  2. In My Mind intermittently shares the ingratiating weirdness of Williams' N.E.R.D. side project, but his shaky rhyming and occasionally off-key crooning suggest he shouldn't quit his day job cranking out beats anytime soon.

The bulk of the R&B tracks are gloopy. [Mar 2006, p.106]
  4. Next to guests Jay-Z, Snoop and Slim Thug, Pharrell's playa-playa croon gets tiresome.
  5. In My Mind has several potential hit singles, but taken as a whole it falls dramatically short.
  6. It’s an ambitious mess, but it’s a mess.
  7. There’s hardly an honest word on In My Mind; any sane listener’s bullshit meter should red-line after about fifteen minutes of it’s textured repulsiveness.

I don't see anything wrong with it besides outside of a couple of choices that ultimately did nothing to the overall quality of the album. II don't see anything wrong with it besides outside of a couple of choices that ultimately did nothing to the overall quality of the album. I don't think this album is a 10, its more an 7 or an 8, but I don't want to deter anyone from listening to this quality piece of work. This album has everything you probably love about Pharrell and the Neptunes in their early days. Pharrell's rapping is strong, and it boasts an impressive set of feautres (Snoop Dogg, Jay Z, Pusha T, Nelly, Kanye West, and more). I'd highly suggest if your a Pharrell fan or if your looking for an album just to check out. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. After seeing the metacritic Critic Reviews score being so harsh, I decided to re-listen to this album since I haven't put it on in about 5 years (currently 2017). I remember when I first bought the album back in 2006, I would have it in the CD changer (CD changer??? those were the days) and let it play through. I thought it was a decent album that I could listen through start to finish but now that it's just mp3 and whatnot, the songs from this album no longer make the cut on the 2017 playlists. While re-listening, given that Pharrell is a producer and a major part of the supergroup N.E.R.D, you would expect the beats to be premium and I'd have to say, the beats are still very listenable in 2017. Some of my favourite beats / instrumentals were: Best Friend, You can do it too, That Girl, I really Like You, Take it off, Number One, and Show you How to Hustle. Lyrically and vocally not as spectacular as the production. There are some songs that I would skip, but still a very good listening experience, overall. Expand

This album is pathetically weak...as compared to his N.E.R.D album...
