Country singer Reba McEntire doesn't miss a beat on Keep On Loving You, her debut album for Valory Music.
  2. It’s a sturdy and at times exuberant country album with big production and McEntire’s even bigger voice leading the charge on low-key ballads (“I Keep on Lovin’ You’’), rocking kiss-offs (“Strange’’), and her signature story songs about ordinary lives (“Maggie Creek Road’’).
  3. Though her voice has aged well, few of these tunes?provide it enough of a challenge, and the ones that do often sound like something she's already done better.
  4. It's admirable that McEntire can stay current, but even more impressive when she sounds so joyfully timeless.
  5. On Keep On Loving You, her spotty 25th studio album, her voice still has that slightly nasal quality that makes it sound always on the edge of a harangue, even though she rarely bares her fangs anymore.
  6. It's a good thing that McEntire is in such fine voice, because her performances elevate some awfully pedestrian material and overcome some strident contemporary country production choices.
  7. The bottom line here is that Keep on Loving You may jar some longtime Reba fans on first listen, but despite the record's sound it's all her in this mix, and they will more than likely celebrate this.

Down with country radio programmers for killing "Strange." It was the freshest-sounding song to hit the country airwaves all year. I think Down with country radio programmers for killing "Strange." It was the freshest-sounding song to hit the country airwaves all year. I think the programmers were more interested in playing the cookie-cutter songs of young country sex pots than playing something that sounds new & fresh. Collapse

One of Reba's best efforts of her long career.
