The attention to detail Bevin is known for sounds invitingly open on Kindred and the ending fruition is a thrilling success.

Like a pang of guilt does he sample his former self, like a torch carried to its final flicker of illumination. And to hear all that, to be able to almost feel that happening, is to bear witness to an artist working at the apex of his talent.

The most noticeable difference from his previous work is that the three are symphonic, they have parts, and those parts are distinct, either marked by a certain loop, bass ostinato, drone, or tempo.

It's the sound of a composer showing just what can be done with a sampler in the right hands. Hip-hop producers should take notes.

It evokes so many emotions in a single track, and wrestling with its bittersweetness affects you in the gut. [Apr 2012, p.67]

This breathtaking EP telescopes the mysticism of 2007's Untrue into two 11-minute suites and a seven minute palate cleanser.

His unique nostalgic, imaginative production he innovates and thus created a sound like no other. 2007 surprising debut of Untrue spawned tracks such as Archangel and Raver that signified his real intention of making his own sound. Its very difficult to name a fault on Kindred with its introduction of drums constantly spinning with sampling thrown left, right, centre. Few need to understand this is an EP as to an album, he can blow away most of his competition to other albums that have been released. What game changers have in their pocket is to surprise its audience and to know not to release any form of art without perfection. Burial once again showed the world he is in no way slowing down and is far from becoming complacent. Buy the EP and support and be amazed. 9.5/10 Expand

Wielding two 10+ minute monsters,Burial brings the intensity and attention to detail that made Untrue brilliant and creates an ambitious EP. Wielding two 10+ minute monsters, the Kindred EP presents the most triumphant and powerful classic Burial track yet in "Kindred," builds upon the minimal house leanings of "Raver" in "Loner," and breaks all of his previous restraints in the stunning, swirling "Ashtray Wasp." A standout and a beautiful sign of what's to come. Expand

This is the sound of him expanding and growing, incorporating new sounds like the bass on kindred and the beat on loner while retaining the elements that make him special such as the ghostly voices in the background and the atmospheric synths that settle into your skin. It truly matches Untrue toe to toe and then goes the distance. Hopefully its just a taste of things to come for the most important electronic artist of this generation. Expand
