    While it's clear that Learning has a lot to say, it sorely lacks variety of structure, arrangement, and melody, leaving the record with a bit of a stale aftertaste and merely the promise of something greater in Perfume Genius' future.

    nice simple guitar ballad record with swift ambient production . it's well written and for a debut album it is very idiosyncratic . thenice simple guitar ballad record with swift ambient production . it's well written and for a debut album it is very idiosyncratic . the stories sound like precursors to the depth of his latter work. the only fault in this beautiful small record is the indulgence of instrumentals and the lack of variety in songs which tend to blend into each other.     This album is so emotionally powerful, and it's sung very well. The production makes it interesting, and the lyrics are good. My only gripes are that it may be a tad too simple with its piano melodies and that there are a few songs where PG is singing, but there aren't really lyrics, so he's just sort of crooning for an entire track, which gets a little stale. It's nice to know that someone this young - this is his first album and already he is on a level with, let's say, Bon Iver - and who is so talented is writing about gay current gay sensitive subjects such as gay-teen suicide and gays holding hands in public.
