Last track aside, Light Science ends up being purely genius. The instrumental rock is fresh and unique, a brilliant light amidst all of the other dull groups who are generating "the same old thing."

Like their name, Wires Under Tension's music is fraught with restlessness, and in a music industry that still generally rewards and promotes the familiar and commonplace, a little agitation might be just what we need.

Tignor's musical apprenticeship in the avant-garde world shows through as well, and between the minimalist motifs, flowing violin lines, and brass interjections, Light Science sometimes suggests the likes of Steve Reich, LaMonte Young, and Pauline Oliveros letting their hair down for a garage-band jam.

A party album for the impending robot takeover.

Light Science does offer its share of thrills and chills, and, while your mileage may vary depending on how you feel about instrumental work, it offers enough of an enigmatic listen for those who prefer their records to be long on expression and short on actual lyrics.

Light Science manages, thus, to be impressively conducted, self-announcing, and well dressed while remaining static, safe, and a tad lonely.
