As it stands, Green has moved forward--or at least sideways--with each of his three City and Colour albums. But all in all, it's difficult to call Little Hell anything much more than nice.

Many other songs retread themes of self-doubt and disillusionment, reaching previous levels of intimacy but without taking us anywhere new. Musically, Green does take C&C into somewhat unfamiliar, heavier territory.

It's definitely a different style than the first two albums, "Sometimes" and "Bring Me Your Love"- both of which are completely acoustic. "Little Hell", involving electric guitars, is another great album of Dallas, showing that he's experimenting with new things, and trying different styles.

All in all, I highly recommend listening to this masterpiece!

Going from purely acoustic songs in his first solo album "Sometimes", to adding a variety of instruments in "Bring Me Your Love", and finally we are introduced to "Little Hell" which contains a bit of everything. "Little Hell" contains the same acoustic guitar songs that he is known for, intertwined with some faster paced folk rock songs that make you want to jump and dance, rather than cry. It truly is a deep album, full of meaningful lyrics about family, lovers, and personal insecurities. "Little Hell" is a treat for anyone looking for a bit of everything. Full Review »
