  1. Here she’s hacked away the art school whimsy, tossed out the crystals and burned the floaty headscarfs, focussing her talents into ten razor sharp songs, some subtle, some vicious.
  2. Nadler does what she does so very well. Even on familiar territory, like the dreamy, shoegazey closer Mistress, she's in sublime, beautiful form.

aybe listeners trapped in the depths of mourning or an exceedingly bad breakup might find hypnotic comfort here; others will likely admire the pretty vocals, fingerpicked guitar, and spectral atmosphere--then crave songs just a little more eventful.
  4. Little Hells, for all its melancholy, gives Nadler’s fans another reason to celebrate; any continuation of the momentum birthed with Songs III is a happy thing, indeed.
  5. Even through all its missteps (tracks like “Loner”; “Little Hells”; and “Brittle, Crushed, and Torn"), Little Hells proves just how appealing the rough diamond can be.

Little Hells showcases the 27-year-old's charcateristically breathy, reverbed vocal and crisp picking style, bringing delicate warmth to a chillingly gothic soundscape. [Spring 2009, p.67]

As with previous album "Songs III," this us an enchanting record. [Apr 2009, p.109]

So convincing does the Boston-based siren inhabit this cut-off, gothic world that it's hard not to be sucked inside the darkly compelling likes of 'River Of Dirt.' [Apr 2009, p.107]
  9. Most of Little Hells is musically quite simple, giving the sense that whatever Nadler has to say rests entirely in her sound, not in the songs themselves
  10. Little Hells still works from start to finish, but if that's the case, then it's pretty good for process output.
