My indoctrination of the Band came through watching The Last Waltz many times and wearing out its soundtrack on the turntable. This collection, from same era, has a lot of overlap, but a broader song selection, though, IMO, not as good track selection and not the same energy as TLW.. Dylan, who was brilliant on TLW, is vocally obnoxious here, but hearing "Like a Rolling Stone" live makes up for it in some part. Band diehards will eat it up; for newbies, I'd recommend watching TLW and getting its soundtrack instead. Collapse

For the most part, however, [Bob Dylan's] contributions feel like a step down from the level of those of his former bandmates, emphasising just how far they had come.

The soundboard mix of this version of an already much-expanded CD sounds gleamingly, unfeasibly fresh. [Nov 2013, p.93]

Most of us missed the party 42 years ago, but now it's boxed for our infinite pleasure. [Nov 2013, p.99]
