When things are light and simple on Live It Up, DeWyze seems like himself: a threadbare talent who floated in on the vapors of Idol's empty tank.

Only the album's last track, "A Song About Love," feels true. His voice is serrate, his mood is foul, and the song is sturdy enough to stand up to both. It's the sound of Mr. DeWyze's then and now finally colliding.

With the relentlessly bland Live It Up, he becomes the latest in a long line of folk-pop singers air-brushed to melt into the pack, not rise above it.

Lee DeWyze's debut album Live It Up suffers from vague production that strips his Adam Duritz-y growl of all humor, anger, and sexuality.

For me, this is the best debut album of a male artist, this years. It's so much better than other albums out there. The standouts are "Me and My Jealousy", "A Song About Love", "Beautiful Like You" and "Earth Stood Still", but the whole album is terrific. Songs like "Stay Here", "It's Gotta be Love" and "Sweet Serendipity" makes you wanna dance. And of course, we have the acoustic songs, that showcases his beautiful voice, songs like "Weightless", "Dear Isabelle", "Brooklyn Bridge" and "Live It Up". Overall, this is an incredible album and Lee DeWyze should be very proud of it, because he did a great job. Full Review »

They have all voiced their disdain for Lee DeWyze, ad nauseam. They have let it be known that they wanted Crystal to win for months now, and this is their revenge. I doubt if they really listened to Live It Up with an open mind. I'm sure their reviews were written long before LIU was released. The real shame is that they may turn some people away from LIU. Lee DeWyze is an extremely talented singer/songwriter and has put out an amazing album! Even if you're still holding a grudge against this kid for winning AI, give it a fair listen, you might just like it! If you just want to hear some great music, this album is wonderful! You will love it! 'A' Full Review »

He has a sexy, raspiness that evokes emotion and pulls you into each song. After a few listens to LIU I am addicted to all the songs and choose a different favorite each time. Usually I skip to the tracks I like but find myself not wanting to skip any....that is the sign of a great CD in my book. I was happy to see he co-wrote 10 of the 11 tracks...what a talent! I hope others discover this singer/songwriter in time...they won't be disappointed. Full Review »
