It sounds like the soundtrack to an odd dream about a Western film. [Mar 2013, p.96]

Lonesome Dreams emerges, a bit shadowy to be sure, as a record about returning home from the elemental, stylistic and genre wilds. It is a meditation as much about oikos as odyssey.

Even with the cultural grandiosity described here, in many ways, Lord Huron's music is pretty standard Americana fair: catchy twang through a hazy lens.

While it's a pleasant enough listen, the entire album falls short of the potential opulence hinted at by its best tracks.

Lonesome Dreams' instant knock of familiarity will prove comforting for some, but it gives these tracks something of a plug-and-play feel. Many songs are dramatically assembled, and all of them move, but when they move in pretty much the same ways as another, spryer band, it's that much harder to get caught up in their attendant drama.

    A patchy debut effort.

I think Lord Huron took a page from Yeasayer and Fleet Foxes and came up with a beautiful album. Not a bad song on the whole thing. In factI think Lord Huron took a page from Yeasayer and Fleet Foxes and came up with a beautiful album. Not a bad song on the whole thing. In fact this quickly became my favorite album. It has a nice mixture of strong vocals and touch of psychedelic sounds mixed with beautiful melodies and beautiful lyrics. Full Review »
