Timbaland's back and stronger than ever after a long absence. The first four songs are a new direction pop music should move towards, and I'm glad to see Nelly is relying more on her hip hop side - this is the album I expected her to make instead of Folklore (after her work with Missy Elliot, Jurassic 5, and the Roots).

Outstanding CD. It's really the next evolution of Nelly. There is a thread of continuity that meanders through all her albums. True fans will acknowledge it, and appreciate it.

I have always appreciated her talent as a worldwide, but purely Canadian fellow musician. Loose is a bold transition with consistantly deep beats, which works as both a career defining album and a look through the artist's eyes. Wicked production, solid style, and brazen chemistry between Nelly and Timba.

Maneater and Promiscuous make this CD good enough to buy, though that is almost the norm these days when CD's are filled with bland songs and just one maybe 2 good ones. This CD doesn't follow that formula... the sound she's found with the help of Timbaland is perfect for her genre of singing. Hopefully she'll be rewarded when the AMA's and Grammys come around. Just think if they met up for her album with Fly like a Bird and the couple others, it would've been instant classic. Expand

Definitely different from her last two albums, but the first two were not alike either. Her albums reflect her diverse musical tastes. This is the perfect summer album! The Portuguese tracks of the previous 2 albums have been replaced by Spanish ones, but the results are just as good!

Furtado continues to be the anti-Britney of the modern pop world, proving that you can make danceable music without the music sounding boring or the lyrics being braindead in execution. This is the album that Jewel's 0304 was supposed to be. While I wasn't as dissapointed with her sophomore effort as most people were, I agree that she needed a change and boy did we get it. I can't give it a higher score because, like all her albums, they are so ambitious that there are bound to be a couple songs on the weak side. Expand

Definitely one of best 2006 albums. Almost all songs are good, but style of them changes so they don't apply to single minded listeners. It's an achievement to produce three so different albums and all high quality. It comes to my mind Coldplay also made three and they match in quality.

one of the best albums of 2006. Yeah, people said she's not true to her roots and sexed up to sell more. I say, whatever. Those people obviously didn't listen to the whole album. I think it's really creative of Nelly Furtado to have changed the direction of of her music. It's fresh, and smart. Possibly, grammy worthy.

I should play the album at least four times to make sure it's just a matter of time to like 'Loose' completely like I had instantly with the previous album. there's still some part of me saying the music is not suitable for Nelly, but the most part said it's nice.still,I like 'No Hay Igual','Te Busque','Maneater','Promiscuous'; and 'Say it Right'. I think Timbaland getting caught up to use a very recognizable beat we've heard already with other singer.let's bope for the next album to be more 'fitted-loose'. Expand

WHOA, Nelly...! I've always enjoyed her music and this album totally blows my mind!! That girl sure knows how to innovate! Not only did she write those all-danceable catchy songs, but also she sings all these cute chill out songs! It's like a mixed brainstorm of her innovative/luse cultured mind! I'm really convinced this is the top mainstream album of this summer! I wonder if Gwen Stefani will do better with her new solo album.. She did with the last one, though.. Expand

Nelly Furtado is back, and if you're a pop fan at all you should be thanking your lucky stars as she has always been an outstanding artist. Once again, she's going in another direction with her latest album. The result is this amazing collection of varied styles of pop/alt. rock/r&b/and hip-hop. She out does Gwen Stefani on "Do It", takes on Shakira and even Daddy Yankee with "No Hay Igual", one ups Janet Jackson's latest efforts with "Afraid", and even shows new comers like Ciara that she can do r&b and do it well with "Showtime". My favorite tracks are "Maneater", "Promiscuous", "Glow", "No Hay Igual", "Say It Right", "Wait For You", and the Chris Martin penned "All Good Things (Come To An End)". This is 2006's finest pop album, and I'm willing to bet it'll remain the best all year. Expand

Nelly Furtado made a good work with Timbaland. At the beginning, you are kinda impressed and think : "Hey, that's not nelly!" but aftern listening to it some times, you recognize that the club-songs from Nelly aren't trash, they're actually pretty good and rhythmic! Ok, not all songs are the best, but , seen generally, i'ts a good cd. The best track for me are: All Good Thing, Showtime, Say It Right , promiscuous and Te Busque. Expand

Nelly Furtado sure cops a lot of criticism in the press. Her 2000 debut Whoa, Nelly! was an unexpected left-field hit. Three years later her sophomore release Folklore was a commercial flop. So what? Furtado will go down in history with thousands of other musicians who struggled to make a success of their second album, the hardest one of all. Now with the release of Loose, Furtado cops a bit more from people calling this one 'lightweight'. Everyone's cup of tea it may not be, but Loose is definitely not lightweight. Rarely do we see a musical marriage so seamless as Timbaland and Furtado. Originally arriving for a single track to be produced by Timbaland, Furtado stayed for more and ended up getting the master producer to put down most of the album. Make no doubt about it, Nelly Furtado has reinvented herself in a Madonna-like stroke of genius. She has gone from alternative surprise, to forgotten one, to queen of the mega hit. The Timbaland drum beats and hooks on this CD are undeniably infectious. Promiscuous screams of Timbaland's prior work with Missy Elliot, while Maneater has more than a little reminder of an old Hall and Oates classic about it. Most songs on this album happily belong on the dance floor and Timbaland successfully integrates dance with hip hop, bringing Furtado very quickly into the mainstream on both sides of the Atlantic, like she has never been accustomed to before. Furtado's Loose is certainly eclectic, but not distractingly so. Rather, the listener is blessed with a range of musical styles from the early days Madonna dance floor innocence of Do It to the Portuguese roots of No Hay Igual and Te Busque. Mixed in are ballads like In God's Hands and the in-between esoteric beauty of the drumbeats and wailing vocals on Say It Right. Out front are the enormous radio hits in the dance-infused drum beat of Maneater and the dance-grooved hip hop of Promiscuous. Pop, hip hop and dance friendly, Loose is Nelly Furtado's answer to her critics. Expand

I was so happy when Promiscuous was nearing the end of its heavy play curve on the radio waves. Too bad they chose to replace it with this techno attempt throw back to the '80s original by Hall & Oates... sorry if most of you are too young for the reference - YouTube it to get up to speed.

It is really difficult to find an artist with Nelly's quality. She is versatil. She is changed completly her style, but her album still sounds great. She was smart enough to know that was time for a change and the surprise was a good marketing for her. She is a star between lots of clones. The R&B influence didn't make her sound the same of everything else that is happening. Her voice and style are unique. Expand

How in the flippin' hell did this get above 70? Are all people crazy, or just tone-deaf? Her voice is nasally and annoying. Along with Timbalands random "HEy.. ooooh hey" this is just sad. Her older music used to actually be listenable to a certain extant, but going hip-hop while sounding like she's sick doesn't work for her. Back to the drawing board Nell, cause the only reason you're selling with this material is because of the brainwashed consumer, thinking it's "all the rage". It's a trend, hopefully it'll pass. Also, her new image in her videos is absolutely disgusting. Acting all "Ooh, I'm hot" business, to me, is not hot, it's egocentric. "Everybody, look at me, me". Great lyric material. Booooooring. I give her a 2. One for being with the trends, and 2 for not being original. Those are the good points in the album. Which isn't a good thing. Expand

This album is awesome, the best of her three so far. It is a perfect mix of the new reinvented Nelly (evident on tracks such as Maneater and No Hay Igual) and the old folkier songs of her past two releases (of special note, Te Busque, and In God's hands). It also includes one of the greatest singles of recent history, Say it right.

Nelly Furtado previously produced very sweet, girly, alternative R&B, similar to Lauryn Hill and The Fugees, with songs like 'I'm Like A Bird', 'Turn Off The Light' and 'One-Trick Pony' classics of their genre. She then had a baby and we didn't hear from her for awhile. Her come back is a complete suprise. Collaborating with Timbaland, she has reinvented herself as an artist, so much so that one has to wonder how much of her song-writing is on this album, and thus question, how much of her was on her other albums as well. Who knows. Does it matter? It does a little, at least to me, though even if, worst case scenario, it is almost completely the sound of Timbaland, he is an artist in his own right, so mayb... Hmmm. Such is the existential crisis she has provoked in me, and probably others in her traditional audience. But it is the most successful album of her career, and obviously there are alot of others out there who don't have such issues. Good for them. It is a good record. Expand

However, if the good songs end up being released, I might be half pleased with her. My album hightlights: Maneater Afraid No Hay Igual Do It Glow Promiscuous Say It Right is ok, too.

The "Give Up" guy below me is by far one of the most ignorant people I've ever had the displeasure of seeing on the net. Please, grow up and get some morals. Now, as for the album itself: It's a wonderful pop album, and it has some of Timberland's best production to date. There are so many fantastic songs here, and none of them are terrible at all. With Mr.Tim Mosley producing the beats and Nelly's emotional lyrics, the songs made hits! Who knew the girl next door could rap? This was one of the best comebacks of 2006! I don't buy it. A severe lack of melody marks yet another disappointing offering from someone that had shown such astronomical promise. It's a shame -- the piecemeal cacophony masquerading as music sounds fused and patched together like a factory-made product. Some may appreciate this robotic sound, but I prefer the organic, multi-national, free-form emotion she exuded before the hip-hop community got their claws into her.. Not only that, but I get the distinct feeling that she believes all the yes-men and women telling her how rad she is. She's not being herself -- it may be that she feels she must subvert her smart, sunny, mensa-like persona in order to attain commercial viability. Whatever may be the cause, it is a painfully forced attempt at a dumbed-down, relaxed vibe. She just sounds like she is in a miserable place right now. Expand

Nelly Furtado has re-invent herself with this album, and i think it shows how she's still like a bird but a bird's gotta have a little fun once in a while. This album has produced many of the best recent singles like Say it Right ,All goo Things, and In god's hand . Also, people just take one look at the song Promiscuous, and they go 'Oh , i hate her now cuz she's totally different'. Well, let me tell u something, nelly furtado is still the same amazing bird you've heard on Whao! Nelly but this time, she has stepped into another genere and showed how talented she is. Expand

With club-ready songs like "Maneater" and "Promiscuous", quiet soothing songs like "In God's Hands", "Showtime" and "Alll Good Things (Come to An End)", and all the rest, "Loose" is the perfect mix. I admit that "Whoa, Nelly!" and "Folklore" have more quiet and less "poppy" songs, but "Loose" is perfect for anyone, anywhere.

  1. Loose is slick, smart and surprising - the first great pop album of the year.
  2. Aside from a few duff tracks 'Loose' is an absolute beauty that couldn't have arrived at a better moment.
  3. It probably won't appeal to all, and some of Furtado's fans may be hugely turned off by the more danceable tracks. Yet Timbaland has revitalized Furtado - this is the sound of an artist having the time of her life.
