If you didn't like Waiting for the Sirens Call (which I do like it, a few songs were very good) just imagine what 8 songs sound like that weren't good enough for it. That's Lost Sirens.

Bernard's lame lyrics are what hold this compilation back from being very enjoyable. The lyrics really sound like Sumner was just going through the motions, or using a computer to produce lines that fit the music. There's little to no feeling in the words on this record. 2005's Waiting for the Sirens' Call is nobody's favorite New Order record, and it's fair to guess not many people were waiting with baited breath for an outtakes album from an apparently dreary and unimaginative recording period.

It’s the sound of an indie/dance band hitting middle age, retaining some grace, and indulging their more basic rock ‘n’ roll tendencies.

Depleted, but not defeated. [Mar 2013, p.92]
