It’s the sound of an indie/dance band hitting middle age, retaining some grace, and indulging their more basic rock ‘n’ roll tendencies.

Compared to that album's [Sirens' Call] half-hearted songwriting and rote sound, Lost Sirens positively shines--leading to the customary questions of why this material didn't replace several, if not many, songs on the original Sirens' Call.

Lost Sirens makes for a welcome parting shot; a sugared pill to take before slipping away into happy dreams where Bizarre Love Triangle plays from now until eternity.

The Lost Sirens actually bests its parent album, which was not New Order's finest hour.

Completists can tick a box, but it'd be a shame if this was really the original New Order's last word.
  6. In most cases, the cupboard seems its best home.

This is latter-day NO so the lyrics are a bit predictable and there are no staggering surprises. There are a couple of so-so songs (Recoil and Shake It Up), but the majority compare favourably with a lot of their 90s/2000s output and should have made it onto Sirens instead of tracks like Jetstream or I Told You So. The remix of the latter on here is a revelation a much better song. I'll Stay with You would have been a great single. Even so-so New Order is a lot better than most of the competition. Collapse

The lyrics really sound like Sumner was just going through the motions, or using a computer to produce lines that fit the music. There's little to no feeling in the words on this record. The music is comparable to the material that made it on the Waiting For the Sirens' Call record, which is overall fairly good, albeit somewhat monotone and repetitive. It's certainly not like any of their memorable records like Get Ready or any of their albums from the 80's like Technique or Ceremony. Expand
