We had to wait two years for this one (the longest gap between albums since Evolution) but it was worth the wait. He never seems to run out of love songs to his wife after eighteen years together. His songs are getting if anything more romantic and more about love and less about sex (but that's just a little more under the surface than in his other albums). When you compare his songwriting to everyone else's it's refreshing. Expand

Throughout his cheerful jumble of a fifth album, Love After War, he pushes both of those buttons [tight execution and a suspension of disbelief], asking you to admire his tasteful slickness without delving much deeper than the surface.

Though his feathery coos and whispers have long been his calling card, Thicke spends most of Love After War singing in full voice, with mixed results.

The second half is dominated by ballads made for seduction (with more than a little preening). They don't offer much in the way of development from Thicke's recent past but they should get the job done.
