  • Summary: This three-track single (optimistically dubbed an "EP"), the band's second overall release, contains songs that allegedly will not appear on their upcoming full-length debut.
Score distribution:
  1. Positive: 1 out of 4
  2. Negative: 1 out of 4
  1. Let's face it, no one else today is making music as cool and original as that of the Yeah Yeah Yeahs.
  2. The brittle treble-heavy assault is replaced with clarity, greater exploration of texture and more "professional" recording.
  3. The Machine EP is a bizarre experiment for the YYYs: is this studio-glazed rocker the one that will show their true colors - or is this just a little endeavor to see what they can pull off? Either way, I’m pretty pissed.
  4. Machine disappoints on an almost unprecedented number of levels, and its unfortunate length is the least of its problems.
Score distribution:
  1. Positive: 1 out of 2
  2. Mixed: 0 out of 2
  3. Negative: 1 out of 2

i love the yeah yeah yeahs, and i'd probably put their first ep and their full-length on any list of my favourite albums. but machine is i love the yeah yeah yeahs, and i'd probably put their first ep and their full-length on any list of my favourite albums. but machine is just a mess -- 1 good song, and a few stabs at a more experimental sound that fall completely flat. go for their other stuff, and avoid this at all costs.
