  • Summary: After the success of the single "Foundations," her debut album was released five weeks early and opened as the number-one album in the UK.

  1. So, from bed-bound broken foot casualty to creator of the finest debut album of the year in just over a year.
  2. Nash isn't quite the pottymouth that some of those titles might suggest, and she does a good job of keeping her tales about going for the wrong guy (among other problems faced by a 20-year-old woman) relatively universal, even as she's singing about trainers, tarts, and discos.

Nash's bluntness and detail make for a good spectacle. [Feb 2008, p.96]
  4. Though its doubtful that Made of Bricks will go down as one of the greatest debuts in UK history, it’s still a remarkably entertaining and witty disc, doubling over as the album equivalent of a fun, summer popcorn movie.
  5. Nash's lyrics are charming and skillful, with huge mouthfuls of narrative information crammed into unbelievably small spaces.
  6. While not yet distinct enough to escape [Lily] Allen's shadow, as an empathetic soundtrack to similar growing pains Nash's debut hits its mark. [Sep 2007, p.86]
  7. The music is not Made from Bricks' problem: 'Foundations' proves she can write an indelible chorus and 'Mouthwash' and 'Merry Happy' suggest there are plenty more fine melodies where that came from. The problem is Nash's lyrics.

I love this album. THe first thing that wowed me was that Nash writes all her own songs and music. Another thing is her style..I love how you can hear her accent while she's singing and overall I would reccomend this album even to the unbelieving in music Collapse

Made Of Bricks is one of the best albums of the year by far. The Kate Nash debut gets better with each listen. Regina Spektor and Lily Allen's love child has created a winner with this incredible album! Expand

Listen to it a couple of times. The lyrics and music feel naive and accidental at first, but you eventually see how every line is carefully chosen to bring you into the world she lives. the music is best when she is talking about love lost and bad boyfriends (We get on, Merry Happy,Foundations, Nicest thing). Give it a listen, then keep listening. It will grow on you. Expand

The kind of mindless pop album that I really like now, but will undoubtedly bore me a month from now.

'Made Of Bricks' Is the amazing debut by English Singer-Songwriter, Kate Nash. The album puts together simple song arrangements with often quirky-witty lyrics. Nash has an ability like no other to capture the outspoken thoughts, feelings and emotions of a human, which categorizes her as an individual at what she does . Expand

There's some good moments on this record, all the singles basically, but the rest is very average at best. I was expecting a lot more, and although there is some witty word play at work here it all seems to meander on the same subject in the same way without much melody. I reckon she'll only get better from here though. Expand

The lyrics are woeful, her voice is woeful. It's amazing how suck talentless artists get their breaks in the music industry sometimes.
