This album has failings and successes; it all adds up to a highly commendable record, there's no doubt in that.

As it stands, they've not only crossed over but given themselves the scope to impress even further in future.
  3. Tracks such as "Boiling Water" wouldn't sound out of place in a naff holiday resort. There are notable exceptions, though, such as "Fire" feat Ms Dynamite.

Much of the rest recalls '90s rave and jungle at its most shamelessly glossy.

The first half's vocal tracks woefully resemble standard-issue chart fodder. There's some better instrumental stuff later on, but, overall, it's ordinary.

Magnetic Man accomplishes its goal: make pretty for the spotlight.

As a pop album, there's much to love on Magnetic Man and very little filler present, even if some tracks ("Going Nowhere", "Karma Crazy") strike harder than others ("Perfect Stranger", "Ping Pong").
  8. This a forward-thinking, original British album that has captivated a new generation of music fans, not simply by rehashing the old, but by giving the young something that belongs to them and taunting them to do better.

Magnetic Man's arrangements may proudly flaunt dance-pop's most universal qualities, but their efforts remain mere gestures so long as their beats continue to stare so resentfully in the opposite direction.

This is less a statement about where UK dance music is headed than the sound of three men having the time of their lives, with scant regard for genre purists.

This album is a good introductory statement to a new world for the novice, and in that sense it's a solid first step and pretty much a success.

This schizophrenic album will frustrate purists and sate pop kids.

Worst of all, it turns out that commercially-minded dubstep is--perhaps inevitably--a much weaker prospect than its club counterpart.

While Magnetic Man demonstrates their work candidly, you haven't heard the works of Skream, Benga, or Artwork until you've seen them live.

At its best, the album is bracing, capable of winning over the cynics who are not particularly open-minded about crossover dance music.

The album ably disguises and incorporates non-dubstep genres into an unsparing, engaging, and appealing electronic work. [May 2011, p.89]

It's not spectacular but it is a reliable and solid effort. Whether this is a pivotal moment for the genre remains to be seen.
