Sure, this sound has been kicking around in various forms since the early 2000s Drive-Thru and Vagrant Records eras. But rarely has it been done so well.

There are enough special moments and poignant observations here to recommend a peek into the gloom.

This album continues to keep the Have Mercy brand stagnant and disappointingly makes surpassing their debut a tall order. "Smoke and Lace" and "Coexist" are probably the only songs that recapture the magic of the first record. Everything else tries too hard to repeat the slow/loud dynamic they pride themselves on.

The fact that it's essentially more of the same might make it uninteresting to some, but to fans of the band or any of its widely known predecessors like Jimmy Eat World or Taking Back Sunday, that sameness will bring a welcome sense of comfort.

I’d never heard of this band before 2017 and I have seen online amongst the Hopeless Records scene that this record was a point of contentionI’d never heard of this band before 2017 and I have seen online amongst the Hopeless Records scene that this record was a point of contention as it was heavily compared to their previous release. I feel really good listening to this indie/punk LP. It’s full of really strong tracks, in fact, if the whole album kept the same quality as the first 3 tracks, it probably would have been in my top 3 albums. Unfortunately, it slowly tapers off but is still a wonderful listen from this Baltimore outfit. With heartwarming lyrics, passion filled melodies and change-ups, I had this in the top 10 for a while. It’s decent, but only a hair off of maintaining its spot in the upper echelon.
