Manslaughter is a ferocious, heavy record that proves once again that Ice-T and company are undeniable metal contenders, far more than a pop-cultural footnote.

This isn't for the weak-hearted or easily offended. But Body Count are definitely raucous fun. [28 Jun 2014, p.53]

Pure metal it ain’t. Pure fun, it sure is.

Lyrically and musically, Manslaughter is easily Body Count’s most inspired work since their self-titled debut, because it sounds like a reconciliation of all the misconceptions the band had to deal with in the past.

At this stage, Body Count haven't changed much, and really aren't likely to, which means that if you were on board with their earlier work, then Manslaughter has even more rap-influenced metal to fuel your rage. However, if you weren't sold on these guys in the first place, this album isn't likely to change your mind.

There’s nothing as incendiary here as that year’s "Cop Killer," but Manslaughter does feature the band’s smartest musical leap in decades: evolving from its original sloppy mix of thrash and punk to lean, contemporary extreme metal.

Body Count successfully mashes Thrash Metal with Hardcore Punk as well as a little hip hop. Ice T may be 56 years old but he is more energetic than most people half his age. There are just too many manufactured pop acts these days. Most rock has turned into soft, indie alternative pop garbage. It's nice to see a band like Body Count rocking out and not giving a dam about current music trends and conforming to them. If you are looking for aggressive, in your face, carnivorous, heavy, high energy music, then you really need to listen to this album. Expand

Having no previous experience with the band I was a little worried that it would end up being more rap and hip-hop then real metal. Thankfully I was mistaken. "Body Count" drops one of the heaviest metal albums of late, and one of the best albums of the year. The lyrical themes fit in well with the heavy sound, and it's just a heck of a lot of fun. Definitely an album for any metal fan. Expand
