  1. His richest and most consistently satisfying release since the late '80s.
  2. Mojo
    80
His most lyrically sharp and melodically inspired material in years. [Jul 2005, p.99]
  3. Hiatt delivers a batch of songs that powerfully evoke certain places, certain times, certain characters, with an eye for detail and an understanding of the complexities of human behavior seldom seen in songwriters these days.
  4. Entertainment Weekly

One of his most sedate, least jammy sets of songs ever. [5 Aug 2005, p.67]
  5. While Hiatt sounds soulful as all get out (as per usual) on this set, the lingering mood is often downbeat and introspective.
  6. Q Magazine

    A too-well-buried treasure. [Aug 2005, p.129]
