Bergquist is in wonderfully relaxed voice and the open production by Joe Henry allows her vocals--a mix of Sheryl Crow, Rickie Lee Jones and even Billie Holiday at times--plenty of room to explore the bucolic shadows and light of the material.

The varying shades and tones of this beautifully constructed album remind me of the dappled shade of a pathway under trees. Refreshing. The varying shades and tones of this beautifully constructed album remind me of the dappled shade of a pathway under trees. Refreshing. Unexpected (you don't see where the album is going), and quite hard to define. Which is a good thing. Over The Rhine sound on this album as if they have literally been doing this for their whole lives. Meet Me At The Edge Of The World has a timeless feel to it as if it was constructed over a lifetime. It also has an immediacy about it which has nothing to do with it's folk/country roots. Subtly beautiful and irresistible. Full Review »
