Over the Rhine seems to inhabit another time, one that sounds awfully appealing here.

The Joe Henry-produced LP is full of subtle beauty and rich imagery, but there's so much of it. [Oct 2013, p.72]

Similar in style and cadence to their previous outing, Meet Me at the Edge of the World falls somewhere between the rural, antebellum folk of Gillian Welch, the evocative, sepia-toned eccentricity of Tom Waits, and the soulful ache of Lucinda Williams.

The varying shades and tones of this beautifully constructed album remind me of the dappled shade of a pathway under trees. Refreshing. The varying shades and tones of this beautifully constructed album remind me of the dappled shade of a pathway under trees. Refreshing. Unexpected (you don't see where the album is going), and quite hard to define. Which is a good thing. Over The Rhine sound on this album as if they have literally been doing this for their whole lives. Meet Me At The Edge Of The World has a timeless feel to it as if it was constructed over a lifetime. It also has an immediacy about it which has nothing to do with it's folk/country roots. Subtly beautiful and irresistible. Full Review »
