They may only be covering a small slice of what they’ve achieved previously here, but they so totally capture their moment that these songs blot out much of the world around them, so that they only exist, with you, blanketing day and night.

Melbourne, Florida is ultimately the work of a group coming into its own, embracing a more mature sound and one more suited to its literary-minded origins. Fans of exceptional indie pop will do well to spend some time in Melbourne, Florida.

There’s a lot here, all of it sounding exquisite.

These are solidly constructed pop jams, sometimes introspective but never insular, occasionally caustic in a way that’s more resigned than snotty, and always smart but with an appreciation for the simple pleasures of a good rock song.

Melbourne, Florida is an exciting progression to old fans, and a solid entry point for new audiences.

Just as charming as Calendar Days, and with a bit more pep. [Apr - May 2015, p.89]

The arrangements here never add anything to the songs that you haven't heard a thousand other bands do just as well, if not better. [No. 118, p.55]

Good album! Love the sound of the guitars and all the people together in harmony. The best track on this album is by far Waste the Alphabet.Good album! Love the sound of the guitars and all the people together in harmony. The best track on this album is by far Waste the Alphabet. It has a very catchy verse. Could easily be a classic hit from ages ago. Brass additions add a warmth to the sound, a welcome relief from guitars. I like this album a lot! Expand
