While not everything works--as with most albums of the genre, Metal Resistance's musical textures and tropes can grow repetitive--Babymetal's aggressive enthusiasm and sincerity are impossible to resist. [May 2016, p.80]
Metal Resistance shines brightest during tracks such as the epic, melodic ‘Amore’, which draws more heavily on J-pop. For the most part, though, its adherence to the aforementioned formula can be quite boring.
As it stands, Metal Resistance is still worth hearing, if only for the half of the record that captures the insanely silly balancing act that their debut managed so well.

Literally all the tracks are pure bangers, while listening the album I even though all of them should be released as singles honestly there is nothing to throw and nothing to add, pure babymetal perfection ! I'm only scared that with such high standards set with METAL RESISTANCE, their 3rd one will be so highly anticipated that the slightest mistake won't be tolerated but anyways let's enjoy this METAL RESISTANCE era. The best part is that the album doesn't ever sacrifice one genre in favor of the other. Even when it leans slightly more to one side for a track the other genre is still very present giving this album the edge it so clearly has. The balancing act is excellently performed.
It's heavy, catchy, fun, and even emotional. It's a work that shows real growth while still maintaining moments of the playfulness that made them stand out in the first place. From the more emotional ballads, heavy riffs, and upbeat, pop themes everything comes together in a wholly satisfying package.
The best of both genres are captured and brought together. Despite the band's name this is the kind of stuff no hardcore metal fan could be embarrassed of listening to. Babymetal shows real growth and that their debut album wasn't just a fluke. The metal idol trio have grabbed my attention and hopefully will grab the rest of the metal community's. I for one can't wait to see what comes next. Until then I have an outstanding album to help me wait.
