Killer Mike has taken a meticulous approach to ensure MICHAEL paints a nuanced, vivid picture of him and his community, and the effect is inspiring.

Its most immediate moment may come via the El-P featuring ‘Don’t Let The Devil’, with its musical bombast and Mike as most have heard him until now, but this is a sonically rich record that is likely to reveal yet more on each listen.

It’s powered by honesty that goes beyond any titles fans have come to associate with the venerable spitter. In a career that’s stretched more than 20 years, Michael sees Mike as his most honest self, and it’s his most comfortable role yet.

Throughout, he remains prickly and eloquent.

Though Michael can get overbearing at times, the production is generally stellar, and it's easily the rapper's most honest and emotional work.

Despite the sometimes-overwrought musical backdrop, Killer Mike remains an incisive and compelling lyricist who confidently takes Michael into unexpected places.

Whilst by no means an unmitigated disaster, Michael fails to do much of anything beyond that which we already knew was well within its namesake’s capabilities.

I'm Mr Rick Lee Mutoshi from Alberta, Canada.
I invested the sum of $25k on a crypto exchange trading platform with a guarantee of 250% returns, two months after my capital deposit i ended up realizing i have spend more than just my invested capital all in the hope that am getting 250% return which i have not been able to access on the trade platform due to my withdraw denial by the exchange, i discover i have been scammed of $413k, i tried all i could to get back my funds but i couldn't get a help so i felt i lost it all until i discover alien wizbot who i decided to contact for the last trial time and it happened that with him i was able to have my funds back. All thanks to the alien wizbot.

ALBUM. OF. THE. YEAR. Killer Mike finally gets his masterpiece with a magnum opus of magnum cum laude rap over banging ass soulful beats. TheALBUM. OF. THE. YEAR. Killer Mike finally gets his masterpiece with a magnum opus of magnum cum laude rap over banging ass soulful beats. The only flaw of this album is how bad it makes me yearn for an OutKast album because Andre 3000 made an epic and masterful appearance to remind EVERYONE why he is still LIGHTYEARS ahead of everyone. The album begins with a showstopper of lyricism on DOWN BY LAW where Killer’s lyrical prowess cuts like a house of flying daggers. The utterly powerful SHED TEARS (along with other life affirming bangers MOTHERLESS and SOMETHING FOR JUNKIES) is where the album gets its much needed heart. But what solidifies this album as a certified rap classic are the STUNNERS that are RUN and SCIENTISTS & ENGINEERS. Run is arguably my favorite song of the year so far. Intro’d by the GOAT of comedy himself Dave Chappelle as he philosophizes on the plight of a modern black leader. Killer Mike’s entire career in the booth and out of the booth seems to have been a build up to a NUCLEAR EXPLOSION like the track Run. He is more than a rapper. He is a leader, a political revolutionary, and hood prophet and he embraces it on a track that will live on in rap history as the definitive Killer Mike track. And just like he did on International Player’s Anthem. One of the Top 5 MC’s to ever breathe on a mic Andre 3000 comes out of “retirement” and writes a damn MOVIE of a verse that clearly gave the song it’s title AND theme for a video if there ever will be one. Rap NEEDS 3 Stacks. Badly. Kendrick Lamar can’t set the standard for rap by himself. We need the Killer Mike’s, Andre 3000’s, Pusha T’s, Jay-Z’s of the world to remind the world the power and artistic brilliance of this medium when at its peak. Living Legends indeed. 10 outta 10 Expand

I was so hyped by the 'Run!' and the 'Talk'n that sh*t' singles at first sight. I must have played those a dozen of times each, and the project seemed so far away at that time.

I enjoyed the overall production of the project, its instrumental, gospel and orchestral entrances. Killer Mike's relentless flow does fit very well in these structures. 'Down by Law' is the perfect example for that. It is a pleasure to hear him speak more about himself. 'Slummer', if quite sad and emotional, is highly impressive and a true delight for my ears.
El-P gave strength to his Run The Jewels partner on 'Don't Let the Devil' and they offer us a top notch production, classic enjoyable bars.

Yet there are some obvious reasons to dislike this LP. Mike's voice tone don't change much from track to track, and the numerous featurings (a bit too much by the way) are here to offer some sung parts while Mike is rapping all along. Mike addresses some emotional and personal content (as on 'Motherless') but also looks like he is tackling issues he does not know many things about, as on 'Something for Junkies'. On the other hand, the 'Talk'n that sh*t' track i mentioned earlier has a terrific shock value but such lame rhymes and verses. It does contribute to make this album look inconsistent.

It doesn't feel too big, but it doesn't feel too personal either. "MICHAEL" is actually a friendly welcome to get closer to someone who is big and important in the rap ambient right now, and it is a very appreciated attempt, even if there is nothing authentic to save, this rarely disappoints with its own concept and goal. A good recommendation for the passing times. Expand

Killer Mike couldn’t make a complete record before El-P and he still can’t. Killer Mike needs El-P.
