    the 3 modern albums that really do it for me: Radiohead-Kid A Mr. Bungle-California Beck-Midnight Vultures Seriously, it doesn't get much better than this.

    My second favorite Beck album, just barely below Odelay, amazingly fun album to listen to.

    Plenty of good listening here, but just below these twin towers of Beck's catlog to date: Odelay for its grab-bag funk and Mutations for its cerebral acoustic seduction.

    Midnight Vultures is probably Beck's most diverse set to date, but sometimes diversity doesn't always feel rewarding. However, in this album's case the rewards come from repeated listens.

    As musically dazzling as Midnite Vultures often is, the one criticism that can be still levelled at Beck is that his songs remain strangely soulless, failing to ever really grip the emotions or stir the soul.
