  • Band members: Jonathan Russell, Nathan Willett, Matthew Aveiro
  • Summary: On its third album, Long Beach's indie rock quartet takes a more personal approach lyrically and gets a little more blues oriented musically--all while retaining its modern-rock sound.

After uniting with Kings of Leon/Modest Mouse vet Jacquire King, the band has emerged with a set that's more inviting than its first but just as catchy.

On Mine Is Yours they take flight at last: the distinctive Willett is excellent throughout and the songs almost all snap and bite. [Feb. 2011, p. 114]

For better or worse, this album is polished and mature -- words that never would have described Cold War Kids' music before.

More streamlined than their older music, Mine Is Yours' relative simplicity allows its songs to more transparently deal with love lost and found.

Awesome album! I LOVED Loyalty To Loyalty and Robbers & Cowards and I thought this one was just as amazing. I'm not sure why they're getting such low reviews, but I couldn't care less. Music is purely subjective anyway. Expand

  3. Really think the critics are being a little harsh on the CWK's latest. It's actually really good in my opinion. I mean, it's not nearly as good as Robbers & Cowards or Loyalty to Loyalty, but definitely a solid listen and should not be dismissed so fast. The opening track (title track) is a little soft and the following "Louder Than Ever" is not promising, but on tracks 3 & 4 "Royal Blue" and "Finally Begin", the album really opens up. "Finally Begin" is actually pretty humorously titled in the sense that the album can finally start, almost as if the band is dismissing the first couple tracks (I'm probably reading way too much into that). Anyhow, the remainder of the album is really great! Classic CWK's. Done. It's new music from a very talented band, who in no way deserve such poor ratings. Have you seen these guys live? If not, please do. One of the most interesting displays of musicianship I have been privileged to see. Would have gotten an 8 or 9 from me if it had not been for the first two tracks. I will buy this album, and I will see them when they come to Brooklyn. Ignore the pro's and go with your gut on this one! - Stevo Expand
  4. What the hell happened?!?! I mean.......seriously, what the hell just happened?!?!? This can't be the Cold War Kids. This is the freaking Kings of Leon with a better singer. Awful. Pantently, mesmerizingly, stupefyingly awful. Someone ship this producer off to the south Pacific or something. He's ruining perfectly good bands. Expand
