This is an excellent album, listen to it. The haters here on this site just hate this album because they don't like Linkin Park's music. They accuse us LP fans of having poor taste in music, well what do you guys listen to? Exactly.

There was only about two decenct songs on this album, I think they just ran out of what they were once, the sound is just redundant and the lyrics are poor.

I really really really dont think this album is 'emo'. Linkin Park is not like others bands, they create new things and try diferent styles of music. I think these bands that keep the same beat and notes and melody in every album are really boring. Just because emo people enjoy Linkin Park songs doesnt mean that Linkin Park is emo. I am a bigbigbigbig LP fan, I have friends that like LP too, and we arent emo. And why can't Linkin Park make some different songs? Just because they started as a x style doesn't mean they cant change it. Expand

I actually really liked it. I'm glad they decided to change their sound, I mean, you can't use the nu-metal sound forever, people would eventually get bored of it. Some really good sounding songs here. My favourites are "Shadow Of The Day" and "The Little Things Give You Away".

I love linkin park, and i love the new direction they're going in with this album. But while it has songs that are truly great like Bleed It Out and Given up, most of the songs just don't.... capture me like most songs in Hybrid Theory, i didn't like Meteora that much either regardless of Breaking the Habit being one of my favorite songs either. Once Linkin Park perfects their new formula, they'll be on top again, and from New Divide from Transformers it seems they're going even further in the right direction. Expand

There is no problem linkin park changing genre....its just that in minutes to midnight they showed the people their lyrical depth....as far as political shift is concerned....even people`s beloved green day has also been rebuking the system...capacity crowds in minutes to midnight tour proves dat people loved their third album too.

Personally, I think it's good for them to (partly) change their genre as what they showed in this album. I was never moved that much by Linkin Park music as the first time I listened to "Shadow of the day". Hope to have more chances to enjoy this kind of music from them.

Minutes to Midnight has not been the pivot LP thought it would be. Don't get me wrong. I Looooooooove Linkin Park, but there are several things you have to look at. if you look at the previous two, Hybid Theory had kind of the perfect audience for its release. Crictics were kind of irritated with the genre , so reviews werent great but the fans loved it and Lpz music kind of had a freshness to it. In the End topped it up. The ncomes Meteora. It is very very difficult to rate Linkin Park's second effort. It was brilliant for the radio but critics did not like it. I think rolling stone was right: it squeezed the last remaining life out nu metal. But thing is, while being as enjoyable as Hybrid theory, the album did not have their debut's freshness. While Breaking the habit, nobody's listening and session were some of the best tracks you could hear, the other tracks did not seem innovative. Songs like Numb were nu metal classics, but not general classics. 2003 was not the best time to release them. Then comes Minutes to Midnight. No matter what review you give to it, one has to say that album 3 did not flow like the previous two did. The music cannot be called bad, the songs simply did not belong on the same album. And mike sounded good rapping like he did before. His two efforts in particular should not have been on the album at all. They had a few cracks at nu metal too. the first one, i must say is the only Lp song that i find horrible. The other two.......... bleed it out was good. What I've done was good too and turned out to be the hit from the album. Two more songs need some attention. No more sorrow had lyrics which for some reason did not click. And then comes Valentine's day. Well, I would say that track has a lot of potential. If it had been a bit more balanced, it would have been the best song on the album. Leave out all the rest is a good song too, but Chester could have sung better. Little things give you away and In pieces were good songs, probably the best consecutive ones on the album. The problem with the album is the lack of fllow. Some of the tracks did not belong on Minutes to midnight. listening to them is like listening to an EP or an experiment. The singles were wrongly chosen too and there was no In the End type clicker innovator on the album. To conclude, I would say that Minutes to Midnight is an album that one can listen to a few times. It just came and went but unlike hybrid theory and meteora which established LP as the greatest nu metal band of all time. As for the band, minutes to midnight was not the album they hoped it would be. It got mixed reviews and I think it was an experiment whose results make you feel that the 4th album is going to be much much more important. It shoed that they are no longer confined to nu metal. It helped the band as an artist, not its greatness. If the 4th album is good enough, Minutes to midnight will be forgotten. It was an average record overall. Expand

A little change doesn't hurt. I remember back in the 90s and early 2000s, nu-metal was at its height of popularity. Korn, Limp Bizkit, and Linkin Park were the most popular. Nowadays, the music scene has changed. Everything labeled "rock" has now become more alternative. Why? Simply because what was designated as a genre ultimately became a fad. People got tired of listening to nu-metal. It really didn't vary much. So nu-metal bands sold less and less. Eventually, Linkin Park decided they needed a new formula. And Minutes To Midnight is the result. On the first day I listened to it, MTM probably got a 5.5/10, a 6/10 at best. I didn't really feel the new sound. I was expecting something more aggressive with that nu-metal polish. The sound I listened to was alternative. Stripped down alternative. Nu-metal, according to LP, is dead. But I, being a fan of LP and music in general, decided to listen again. Let me tell you that Linkin Park and Rick Rubin have done a fine job in crafting such a good album. It's different yet it is a blessing because LP isn't repeating themselves like they did on Meteora. Instead, they start anew. But that doesn't mean LP has become soft. They only added more emotion. Witness LP shredding through tracks like Bleed It Out and Given Up with Chester Bennington giving painful shrieks to "take it deeper and just throw it away". "What I've Done" is a beautiful song about the search of redemption and "Shadow of the Day" and "Valentine's Day" are both melancholic love stories. And "Hands Held High" is a powerful tale by Mike Shinoda on the dangers of war and violence. The sound is not polished. It's slightly rougher and more stripped down a la Rubin style. This helps Linkin Park succeed on a lyrical level because the rhymes are more forefront. My biggest complaint with the album is that LP almost completely abandons their "hybrid theory". In other words, Shinoda raps on only 2 tracks. Change is alright, but cracking the foundation isn't especially if it has already been well established. LP's rap-rock style was the core of their music. And MTM destroys it. But that isn't to say that MTM is a bad album. Musically, LP has evolved and improved. But looking at the lack of rap verses, I fear that their next album may not even feature one. Expand

Really just proves how mainstream LP has gotten, They have left their unique sound for now a generic rock/pop band sort of feel and it disapoints. While you may enjoy the track, Any fan of the old LP will be disapointed with it.

Minutes to Midnight is a bit disjointed, but it showcases a more focused Linkin Park. This was when they realized the restrictions of their genre, and instead of sending out endless repeats of the same album they decided to change their sound into the more-rock, less-rap, more-sing, less-scream, piano-riff and raw guitar shown on M2M. And it's still undeniably them. Shadow of the Day, What I've Done, Hands Held High... in the end I think Minutes to Midnight is the most unique they've ever been. Expand

Linkind park was my favourite band...i remember my family laughing at me because i stood under the shower and shouted with chester during songs like with you, there were feelings in their songs that just wanted you to move and join in singing...but it seems all gone with mtm...some of the songs are ok, you can listen to them when they run in the radio, but linkin park threw away its magic...there is nothing left making me dance, the hard electro beats are mostly gone, replaced by popish sounds fit for the radio...and its really sad because theyr music used to be so great Expand

Although a much different style to the other linkin park albums, this lives up to the high expectation presented by the other 2. The first thing to notice is the lack of rapping, but this is made up by the quality of it one the few tracks that this is included and the overall quality of the album

What happened to my favorite band? From a band that looked like they could do no wrong... countless hits, CD's with not a single bad track... an effortless flow, side projects that were groundbreaking... comes this? I feel so ripped off! OK, there's a couple good tracks that stand alone... but this CD has NO flow. It's just single tracks thrown together in no particular order. And what's with the hand clapping on Bleed It out? How do you call a song "Bleed It Out" and make it sound happy with screaming? That's just the biggest trainwreck of a song I have ever heard. And Chester sounds as soft as a Backstreet Boy on Leave Out All The Rest, while Mike Shinoda seems to have used all of his rhymes that he left off of Fort Minor for this album... or maybe he just had writers block? I really hope these guys make another album... and make it quick! This was supossed to be the band to "Rock the Next Decade"... but if this is what their going to put out... we will have to find someone else to carry the torch. Expand

I look at the "professional" reviews above and it reminds me why I am disgusted by reviewers. I wish I could make them pay me back the money for all the crap artsy-experimental CDs I bought over the years from listening to their advice. This Linkin Park CD is amazing. Its less digital sound than the prior two studio albums but that's not a bad thing. They do both styles extremely well. This album is going to get a lot of playing time from me and I guarantee you will love it as well. Big thumbs up! Expand

Unfortunately, they have chosen to sound more like Fall out Boy then a real rock group, it seems that most bands are doing that nowadays. Which is odd, because Fall out boy doesn't really classify as music, more like pain... agony too, can't forget agony. I think if I started listening to Fall out Boy, my ears would rebel from my head and start riots and the such. Same with this CD. They should now be known as Fall out Park, Linkin Boy, or some other catchy mixture of the two. That will be about as much fun you will have with this cd, might I add. 1/10 Expand

What is going on? I know bands progress and people grow up, but this is ridiculous. The first tune sounds like something a high school band put together in their garage. I have nothing against them taking steps forward and chaning who they are, but this is a drastic, drastic step in a weird direction. You will not get rocked out, just lulled to sleep to a place of emo-wannabe dreams

Interestingly enough, the challenge it was to pick a rating for this album is a good indication of how confusing this album is to Linkin Park fans. I have loved Linkin Park ever since Hybrid Theory and this album was a big shock. I want to say it was a disappointment but we were warned that it would be a new style with a lot of experimenting. As music, it has a lot of good material. Some cool vocals, some decent instrumentals, and even some sentimentality and depth to the lyrics. But where it really misses its mark is as a Linkin Park album. With all due respect, growth doesn't necessarily mean a band has to change its genre completely. I agree with all the fans who say, "I miss Linkin Park." Hopefully, this album reflects the band's interest in experimenting and they pull it together and make a more "LP" album the next time around. They need to consider the atmosphere at their concerts! This album sounds like a sit down concert to me and I don't go to those. Expand

First off, everyone please skip Bill K's review because it honestly made absolutely no sense whatsoever and he sounds like one of those typical hardcore linkin park fans who just give the new album a good review because they're his favorite band. Now, just listen to some of the lyrics in the 2nd track after the pointless UNORIGINAL intro track one (like that hasn't been done before over and over again). It sounds like some suicidal note left by a twelve year old kid over some Limp Bizkit "Results May Vary" guitar riff. Why Linkin park took so long to come out with this record is beyond me and my understanding. The songwriting is bad and the style of music on every track is inconsistent. The band is completely all over the place with the style of music for each song. It sounds like they couldn't agree on a new sound together and just had a deaf family member pick from the one hundred so called demos they wrote for the track listing of Minutes to Midnight. It's so sad that they actually think this is maturity and growth as a band because honestly it's not. It's filled with childish lyrics-wise and for God's sake why must every horrible band release a non original Bush-Bash track. Linkin park fell into the Limp Bizkit category with this album....boring immature rock/fort minor influenced CRAP! This album doesn't deserve to be released.......actually I correct myself, I am glad it was released to show that Linkin Park has done what all bad bands do....dig their own grave! Expand

The feal of this compared to there other albums is definitely different and I found the more I played it the more I liked it. I've never written a review on here, but Bill K.'s comment hit the nail on the head so hard I had to give him credit. I can't even count how many times I've listened to reviewers on here, Amazon, etc. who told me I would LOVE the new (insert band name only five people have heard of) album. I listen to said album, and can't believe I got duped. Just because you listen to something nobody's heard of, it doesn't make you cool, hip or sophisticated. I give Linkin Park a lot of credit for taking the chance to try something different for a change, since their last two original albums sounded way too similar. If they made ANOTHER Hybrid Theory, the the original Hybrid Theory wouldn't be so great anymore. Do you really want the same album again? Let HT & Meteora stand on their own, the same way M2M does. i tried to like this album i really did but the fact is it just doesnt do justice for the 4 years of waiting. they said they produced 100 demo tracks but then why did they put in only 12, most of which dont sound very special anyway? i understand the concept of trying to reinvent yourself but linkin park already invented a whole music genre, so the fact that they chose to "go back" to old school music instruments is the very oposite of reinvention. i really hope they try to go back to their roots and do something really great on their next album. if u happen to like this one, then great, but for me it just really doesnt say anything at all Expand

'A move away from their established rap rock sound' is a move away from everything that made them interesting and fun in the first place. Without it, they're just a generic mainstream band. Papa Roach pulled this same crap with Getting Away With Murder (and this album even borrows from that one in parts) and it really annoys me. EW got it right on the money when they said 'every new effect sounds borrowed'. LP, cutting and pasting a day's worth of commercial radio does not equal growth. Please put some effort into your next album. Expand

This is by far better than I expected. After the loss of Nu-metal by Incubus and Lostprophets, I could only expect Linkin Park to do the same. What I love though is that they they did not pick up the emo sound and picked up the hard rock sound. This is why I hate other reviews that say they are "borrowed" because all of emo is borrowed too. They are actually better than most hard rock because of how much depth goes into the songs. Listen to the album a couple of times and you will see how much better they are than before. Face it, Nu-metal and nu-rock is dead. I don't want it to be, but its fading out like disco. LInkin Park has taken the steps to from becoming rememberable to becoming timeless. Expand

No they didn't take that evolutionary step forward, but Linkin Park did make strived forward in the direction that they should. The problem with "Minutes to Midnight" is not that the rock doesn't rock, but that there's too many things held back. It's too much 30 Seconds to Mars meets Evanescence instead of Linkin Park. Mike Shinoda's smaller presence here also seems to strike a negative mark on the album. Shinoda is the brains behind LP. His lyrical genius about oppression, overcoming adversity, and the way he vents is just so much more interesting than Chester screaming. If anything, they should have included perhaps a little more rap in the album, otherwise they should have just gone all out metal. The dancing in between is what cuts this album off. But in the end, you look back and say "that was actually pretty good". It's just not what we all were hoping for. Expand

I've been a Linkin Park fan for a while. While I'm not a huge fan, I've always liked their music and found their past CD's to have some really good songs on them. (I also thought a lot of it was pretty much filler.) Minutes to Midnight is different. It sounds entirely different. Had Linkin Park simply made this CD yet another clone of Meteora and Hybrid Theory it just wouldn't have been anything to get excited about. This new CD is quite a bit slower, (Although there are still some rocking songs,) and there's very little rap/rock in the same songs. (Usually it's one or the other.) Linkin Park fans will not necessarily enjoy this CD at first; as I said, it's entirely different and they may need to get used to it. But I hope they give it a chance because this is a very good CD. Would it have hurt the band to have thrown some Meteora/Hybrid-like songs on there? No, I guess not, and maybe they should have (at only 11 songs on here, it easily could have used more anyway,) but what is here is very good. After a couple listens it's pretty much my favorite CD in a while. Nice job, guys. Expand

This album is a welcome change from their previous efforts, I am a huge fan of Hybrid Theory and Meteora but its time for a change and I think they knew it to...no matter what they'll always be ppl who say its just right or either say they changed too much, can't please everyone.....I do miss their harder, electronic heavy tracks like 'Papercut' and 'Crawling';....but this album is a HUGE step in terms of lyrical content and melody... in this case, change for the most part..is a good thing Expand

Starts slow, but really kicks in once the rap portion of the rap/rock band does...not what you would expect from linkin park, but not altogether bad. There are very few stand-out radio songs (it definitely could have used some more songs like What I've Done and No More Sorrow), but have some patience and listen to this thing in order. Very meaningful, you tell they put a great deal of time into the song writing. Expand

I just don't know what happens!??! It's not Likin Park anymore, I almost though it was U2 sometimes...Very bad, what can I say more...The single wasn't that bad but the rest of the album is just terrible, there are maybe 2 or maximum 3 highlights and that's it, the rest of the album is just good for garbage...Sorry guys, Meteora was way much better!

I hate all the people that say this is a result of the band maturing... What putting out a cd that (except for like 3 tracks) emo ,put you to sleep tunes ?They even include politics throughout the cd which i felt was a big mistake and brings it down. LP strayed far from its style and alienated like 80% of its fanbase with this cd.. Pure disappointment...

LP have something to say, but only those with an open mind may chose to listen this time around. In the 4 years since Meteora alot has changed in the world and LP have also evolved. In contrast to leaving the fans behind Linkin Park are trying to bring their fans forward. Change is ever-present and all-encompassing, the album is saying so why not try to be active in the process rather than passive. An album which impresses more lyrically and musically with every listen. Expand

After being a devout Linkin Park follower for the last few years, I am convinced that this is their best album ever. Sure, they went a completely different direction with this one, but I am glad to see that they don't have to scream to make great music. I am sure that they will probably return to their old sound in the future, but I am mesmerized by this fantastic album.

This album is so bad I threw it out the window after 15 mins. I can't believe I wated 5 years for junk. I was the biggest die hard LP fan and I am so disapointed. The music sounded like stuff they maybe made the first month they started there band and just edited it a little and produced crap so they can make some fast cash since they spent there money the past few years not doing anything. All but one song are slow slongs that have no amp to it. I would rather listen to a Color Me Bad album 24 hours a day for the rest of my life then hear this junk a for second. Linkin Park is another Limp Bisket. You both suck. Expand

I gave this a 5 because I only liked 1/2 of the songs. The songs that rock, really rock, but the slow songs - way too many slow emo songs. In an album that only has 11 songs (I don't count the minute-and-a-half instrumental), that sucks. I was so looking foward to this album - all I can say is that I'm disappointed. As another user said, I miss my old Linkin Park.

mediocre. Obviously they've tried so hard to come up with this record, but those efforts are unfortunately nothing new. Nu-metal is nothing new, and what's worse is that they're trying to catch up by trying to go emo, which is also nothing new. Hopefully their next album will bring out the more progressive side of the band. Who knows, another 3-4 years?

Linkin Park are getting older and you can hear that everywhere on the album, so that is good cuz you can't stop natural evolution although there’s undeniably some boring stuff on there. However, for all the people whining that the new sound is just too different and LP has gone too mellow well hey! Get over it! Did you really think this was going to be Meteora part II ?

They gave in to the industry...plain and simple. None of their originality shines in this album. Probably the person to thank for this is producer, Rick Rubin. Let one person produce all the music and it will all sound the same (i.e. Timbaland). The only way to save this album is if they completely remixed it and called the album "Sorry For The Crappy CD....All Sales Final."

Not the old Linkin Park, and for the worse. They have declined in musical maturity and have turned to the same emo/political oriented songs as other artists. They throw around obscene words just to draw attention with little or no purpose at all. They are only going down hill from here.

They've certainly lost their unique original style, and in turn have produced something much less desirable. Some of the songs may be deep, but the presentation and sound is completely different from what Linkin Park produced years ago. They've changed their style for the worse.

I don't know why they felt like they had to abandon their roots (for the most part) on this album. Rap/rock may be way past it's shelf date, but LP was one of the bands that stood out in the crowd. This album sounds relatively tame. I could only find 3 decent tracks in the set!

Being a Linkin Park fan for almost 5 years, I'm so glad that they are brave and try to live up to a higher level. Yes, this album is no rap-metal/nu-metal, but is more mature and deeply-emotional. The lyrics are critical for social, political, and environmental issues. I'm very proud of you, Linkin Park, so keep going!!!

I think these guys worked really hard to make this album and I think it came out great. It's unfortunate that such negativity is being thrown their way because in the end, after gettting past the new direction/sound, and not comparing MTM to HT & M, the album sounds really good, and it's got some seriously excellent melodies. I love it.

Minutes to midnight shows linkin park trying to progress, much in the same way bands like incubus have. Seemingly Ditching there more metal roots for an alt. rock sound and whilst minutes to midnight shows a step in that direction it doesnt compare to previous efforts. There is a great deal of potention on this album which is let down by an overall poor production value.

Bad. Sounds like there's way too much 'Fort Minor' in the music yet not enough of Mike Shinoda. Their stuff on the other CDs mighta been cheesy but at least it works. They try to be so different here and it just sounds bad. Where is the RAP METAL that we all know and love?!!?

I feel so betrayed. I am such a LP fan... and this is what I get for waiting so long for the album to be released??? Yawn. After I listened to it, I went back to other albums and compared notes. The songs on the new album are a tease, never building to any climax and lack the intensity of old LP. There are no real heavy hooks. The album seems to have been made for thirteen year old emo kids. This identity crisis has taken away the blend of rap, electronic accents and heavy, angsty rock that made them so good. Better to be the best at one style than mediocre at a few. I hope this album gets re-mixed somehow... or this is a very late April Fool's joke. Expand

The first song Given Up is a fairly accurate description of what this album sounds like. A weak attempt from a band burnt out of ideas. More political lyrics and swearing doesn't make this a more mature album, it's a devolution if anything. I liked the single What I've Done, but I'm still to find another song I enjoy at all here, they range from average to abysmal. Hopefully not the end of Linkin Park, but they'll need to do much better next time to get back any credibility from me. Expand

  2. Negative: 3 out of 15
  1. The California rap-rockers are stymied by their decision to stay roughly within the shrieky boundaries of their genre (albeit with less emphasis on the rap).
  2. Amid the stabs at growth, every new effect sounds borrowed.
  3. As you might imagine, the band's emo makeover doesn't always go smoothly.
