The sound of a band still in their creative prime, MMXII is everything Killing Joke have proclaimed themselves to be these past three-and-a-half decades, and 15 albums on is just as incisive and coarse as their debut.

The lyrics are still full of cutting observations and social critiques (take the anti-capitalism slant of "Corporate Elect," for example), but the urgency driving 2010's Absolute Dissent has shifted into something more akin to a sense of anticipation.

With MMXII they've hit the ball clean out of the stadium. [May 2012, p.102]

The overall vibe is: It's a time for extremes, for ear damage, and KJ--ever exemplary in reactivation--deliver 'em in spades. [May 2012, p.83]

MMX11 is unexpectedly loaded with similarly bomb-laden gems.

Although the whole album by Killing Joke - "MMXII" has a strongly apocalyptic and at times terrifying tone - but also you can't dismissAlthough the whole album by Killing Joke - "MMXII" has a strongly apocalyptic and at times terrifying tone - but also you can't dismiss noticing its scrolling post punk and industrial metal motives. The album reveals its best qualities if we treat it as a whole, than if we take into judgement the separate fragments - which are taken out of context may seem at least strange. Full Review »
