As a first time listener of Cloud Boat, this album blew me away. Not with brutal force. It's all very subtle here. There are a lot of lo-fi, Active Child kinda electronic bands out now, but Cloud Boat have done enough with this album to stand apart from their contemporaries. This is a fresh and compelling journey of an album.

There are times even [Tom Clarke] threatens to get swallowed up in a swirling mix that leaves the post-dubstep scene decisively behind them. [Sep 2014, p.106]

This sounds like a case of a band unraveling their weirdness.

There’s no pandering to musical tastes, no whimsical experimentation, but instead real unity between a song’s musicality and meaning.
