A classic in the truest sense. The influence of this album is simply phenomenal and it really come through when you count the amount of songs that have basically ripped off tracks from this record. The songwriting is exquisite and I'll say it again, there are hooks here that have made into every pop songwriters manual since. The first half is sensational but to be honest side 2 is prettyA classic in the truest sense. Van the Man. His third best album in my humble opinion behind Astral Weeks and Into the Music. "Caravan", "These Dreams of You" and "Crazy Love"; all classics.

    Musically speaking it’s a marvel.

While the remastering is a major improvement on previous CD releases, it is the session discs that are of most interest to anyone who grew up with this timeless record. [Nov 2013, p.101]

Yes, it’s fascinating at times to be a witness to the meticulous construction of great music, but the contents of this boxset feel a mite desperate, rather than generous, and the flabbiness of its 11-minute jams is entirely inappropriate for an album that famously doesn’t contain an ounce of fat.
