A lot of people have done the same kind of excavation and restoration work he has, but few have done it as memorably. Almost no one has done it with songs as good as these.

The whole album is so impressionistic and free-floating that you'll likely hear something else, as Delt intended.

To be fair to him, Morgan Delt is very, very proficient, nailing the '67 sound while injecting a dose of discipline that many imitators miss.

The percussion is low in the mix and the bass way up, giving the songs a molten, fluid quality. The parts themselves, however, are guided by an erratic intelligence.

The lack of outside input and studio polish only intensifies the trip. [Feb 2014, p.73]

This is a finely crafted homage to the late ’60s sound. Maybe sometime in the future Delt will really mess with the template, but for now, the devil (and the authenticity) is in the detail.

Morgan Delt is too academically rooted in the past to really disconnect from it. Still, as a debut, it shows some promise.
