It's a refined sense of balance that sets her apart from Grouper and Julia Holter, artists to whom Evans is too often compared.

Both in its challenging nature and its status as an emblem of everything that the Motion Sickness of Time Travel project has dealt in to date, it functions, without a doubt, as Evans most accomplished release of her career and one of the more accomplished ambient albums in recent memory.

Many of the familiar sounds of ambient music are here, and Evans boldly breathes new life into them.

The sounds aren't harsh enough to scare you away but not serene enough to put you to sleep. It occupies a nice middle ground between totally unlistenable and unbearably boring. Although the scope and length of the album is epic in every sense of the word, it doesn't sound like the product of pretentious self indulgence, the hallmark of a lot of noise music. You have to approach music like this possessing a lot of patience while throwing away all expectations. As soon as you clear your mind, the music here will enter your cranium and straight f*** you in the mind hole. Expand

It has all kinds of merits, but the overall scope of the album was not quite was I was hoping for to add it to my regular rotation. The quiet mornings with a need for a calming sound, I'll load it up, for sure. Expand
