  • Summary: Melding post-rock and electronica, German trio To Rococo Rot have garnered attention by releasing a series of well-received albums on indie labels (most notably 1999's 'The Amateur View') and producing Saint Etienne's 'Sound of Water' LP. Here, they combine with New York turntablist I-Sound for their first release on Mute Records. Expand

  2. Negative: 0 out of 9
  1. Perhaps as a direct result of I-Sound's presence, Music is a Hungry Ghost is a looser, more abstract affair than previous efforts.
  2. Harping on in their own innocuous, oblivious manner, like the shy cousin of Squarepusher the four music makers have succeeded in creating a selfishly inviting album of great beauty and delicacy.
  3. To Rococo Rot don't need more bounce in their already metronomic step, so I-Sound shows the group on this collaboration how to add a bit of swagger. [#155, p.86]
  4. The group relaxes its rigid Krautrock stance and lets seductive dub rhythms and elastic hip-hop beats infiltrate the main.

Perfect music. Great album. Instrumental. If you are a fan of Mouse On Mars or Microstoria, you'll probably like it.

Soothing yet abstract. A can't miss for down tempo/ ambient music fans. Just have an open mind, and you will truly enjoy this album.
