It's hard to know where to start talking about a record like this in all honesty. Never before have I heard an album that combines so much ambition, creativity, genius, hubris and darkness with so much skill, restraint and care to prevent it from collapsing under its own weight. Albums like this should implode, become disasters, and exist as nothing but unfinished, shelved projects that live among public myths as rubble, wreckage and hopes of what might have been. But this is Kanye West, and this is My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy.

Kanye never loses control of the ambition, or the creation or the experimentation. He creates a level all of his own in this respect despite having so many guest producers, collaborators, range of song styles and song writers. To putt it simply, Kanye’s ability to be so incredibly introspective and self-aware keeps his 2010 release interesting right up until the last note. In this case, Kanye is the man stood on the side of the street juggling knives, bowling balls and pieces of fruit while others stand and wait for him to drop everything. But his character, ego and personality shine through and manifest themselves through sampling artistry, a grasp of a range of atmosphere that hasn't been mirrored since its 2010 release and an effective ear for pop and hip-hop's most positive traits.

This is both Kanye West's best album and the joint best album of 2010 (with Arcade Fire's The Suburbs). Each song on the album deals with fame, power, money and can be seen as Kanye's autobiography, he relies on autotune for most of the album which, despite its annoyance in certain cases, works for the album since it relies heavily on some impressive synthesiser work. My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy is simply a breath of fresh air. He has taken hip-hop and music in a whole level. Production is amazing and lyrics. 2010 really belonged to Kanye West(LCD, Arcade Fire, Big Boi, Janelle as well). I would recommend this album to anyone. This album was an all-time classic from the moment it was released. The very first time I heard it, I knew it was a classic. It was as obvious as the sun in the sky is: nothing like it had been heard before in terms of hip-hop music.

My personal all-time favourite. Some of the best production in the history of rap. The ambition of this album cannot be understated. Don't listen to it as 13 songs, but rather listen to it as one cohesive, beautiful piece of music.

After the mixed bag that was 808s & Heartbreaks, Kanye went on to release the best album of his career, titled My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy. One of the greatest albums of all time, MBDTF combines orchestral and thematic pop with the Kanye we all know and love. The album shows a two sided Kanye; a tortured star rapping about his life and revealing his inner emotions, and a braggadocious rapper showing of all the girls and money he gets. You really get a sense of Kanye's world and what has led him to the point of My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy. There is not one note of this album that is out of place. A modern classic this. The Sgt. Peppers of hip-hop. Great melodies and hooks abound, a wealth of styles, moods and layers of production that reward repeated listening. My only gripes are with Kanye's lyrics, namely his trademark rhyming the same word over 2-3 lines, that really rubs me up the wrong way. Then there's the Chris Rock sketch at the end of Blame Game, wasn't funny the first time, incredibly annoying on successive listens. As an artist My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy is definitely Kanye West's best work yet. Kanye puts together what he did in his previous 4 albums and creates this master piece.

Hip-Hop relies on innovation - constant progression is essential for its vitality. This single characteristic makes it one of the most interesting of the new genres that the late 20th century has spawned. Just look at how much it has changed throughout the years - the 70's (Disco, comedy influences), the 80's (Jazz/Rock/Soul influences, rich storytelling), the 90's (hard-nosed, often political lyricism, heavy drums, post-Jazz influences) and... and... then it stopped. The 2000's are often regarded as the decade of downfall for Hip-Hop, and, although that's not entirely true, there is some validity behind the argument - the progression throughout the decade was not as evident. Sure, there were the stars (Eminem, 50 Cent, Ludacris), but, overall, only two major forces in mainstream Hip-Hop showcased that progression in style that had become so rare - Outkast and Kanye West. Kanye was always changing - from the soul-influences of "College Dropout" to the melancholic electronic R&B of "808s & Heartbreak". This album, "My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy", shows Kanye at his strongest - both lyrically and musically. Each song is entirely distinct and perfected to the highest degree . The 90's Gangsta Rap inspired (yet so seemingly modern) "Dark Fantasy", the Rock-influenced "Gorgeous" and, the album's centerpiece, "Runaway" - all these tracks fully showcase Kanye's thirst for progression and perfection, two aspects that are very rarely combined in perfection. Is it the best Hip-Hop album of all time? No. There is no best album. Is it the best produced Hip-Hop album of all time? Perhaps - it's definitely up there with "The Chronic" and "Stankonia". Is it a great album that's worthy of your attention? Definitely.

Some of the most beautiful, haunting music is inspired by the most painful moments of an individual's life, think of "For Emma, Forever Ago" or "Pinkerton". So it's no surprise that Kanye West's most inspired, maniacal, and inglorious music was made during a time when the whole world seemed to hate his guts. Sure President Obama repeatedly called him a "jackass" and Taylor Swift now probably throws darts at a picture of his face, but damn the music that resulted from all the self-loathing and self-pity from his self-enforced exile is impressive. Controversy suits Mr. West well, and amazingly the music featured steals the stop-light from his turbulent life. The opening "Dark Fantasy" boasts a triumphant, angelic chorus and sharp lyrical word play that references everything from "Family Matters" to The Kings of Leon, early fan favorite "POWER" is every bit magnificent and moving as its title suggests, "All of the Lights" is a mainstream ready single that features an elegant piano interlude, but it all builds up to the climax "Runaway". The song is hauntingly disarming. Its blunt, unforgiving, uncomfortable, and beautiful. This is the sound of West's life crystalized, it captures all the noisy chatter of the media and his self-hatred into a song that is real in a way that few songs can hope to achieve. My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy is a great album with well written and produced songs. It is truely a masterpiece. There isn't a bad son on the track at all. It's also nice how each song has a very nice and Lon length to it.

In November of 2010, I was awaiting nothing more than Kanye West's My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy. I'll admit, I was a little bit wary of the results, especially after the disappointment from listening to 808's. However, I found myself indulged in the greatest music I'd ever heard. From the only good thing Nicki Minaj has ever done (the intro of Dark Fantasy), the the powerful closing music under Gil Scott-Heron's Comment No. 1. Interspersed with good, marketable music, in addition to some amazing, less mainstream tracks, I found myself loving it the entire time. My personal favorite moments were Gorgeous, Devil in a New Dress, Runaway, and Lost In The World, all of which were staples in the rest of the album. This album is something completely different from most hip-hop we hear today, and is without a doubt one of the greatest, if not the greatest, albums I have ever listened to.… Expand

Kanye West was let loose on this concept-ish album, this is sooo Kanye. Crazy beats, self-centered lyrics, artsy and very technical with the production. This album is one of the greatest in rap history with classics like Runaway and Monster and will continue revolutionizing the rap game 5 years from now. The sole downside of this album is the inclusion of Swiss Beatz, one of the worst performers in rap history, but even his part is limited. A meticulously drawn sketch of perfection, Kanye West proves that he is on the top of the world, bringing in new and old friends all over the music world to aid with his magnum opus, he takes influences from Aphex Twin, Trent Reznor, Dr Dre and shows that he can deconstruct his ego to create something truly beautiful.
The highlight of the album, Monster, is worth the ticket price alone, with Jay Z's verse interlocking with West's production to unleash a few seconds of intelligent dance music, created from distorted samples and rap vocals, West has created something which is as advanced as technology and his brain can allow it to be; which places him above the rest.

I remember buying this album and putting into my car's CD player on the way back. The booming sounds of "Dark Fantasy" instantly had me hooked. As I kept listening, I was astonished at how good it was. Kanye sure does know how to make fantastic beats and samples. Not to mention he accompanies them with the perfect tone with the right lyrics. I was skeptical about this one, I had never listened to West before. I was pleasantly surprised. While not the greatest thing ever as everyone seems to think, this album shows how West's production talents and some clever rhymes, but the reason it is rated at a 7 is because I find West annoying and he only cares and writes about himself. I listened to his other albums after this one, and him while he was still somewhat humble, he sounds better. I prefer his earlier albums to this one because of West.… Expand

I give it a perfect. It had many flaws but they blended so well. He was capable of creating 10+ different sounding songs, but yet put it together as one. Not to mention almost every song had radio play. Not to say that means anything, but just to say it can be playe in different enviromets.

I never thought one of my favorite hip-hop artists would be able to top his first two albums. This album shocked me in accomplishing that feat in only 12 actual tracks. The thematic elements illustrate the intricacies of fame and all that comes with it. West is at the zenith of creativity in his productivity, however the anthemic 'All of the Lights' is challenged by RZA's 'Dark Fantasy' for beat of the album. It's a moody, bombastic, visceral, gritty, polished package laced with West's trademark confidence and emotion. Not over-rated at all and deserving its recognition as one of the best mainstream hip-hop releases of the decade. My Beautiful... is complex, satisfying and overcooked in every possible way but its a natural progression to Kanye's swaggery and boastfulness in lyrical content to what essentially is one of the most epic releases of our generation while expanding the genre boundaries.

My Beautiful Dark twisted Fantasy is the "Achtung Baby" of Kanye West albums. Forget what you already know about Kanye and his mic stealing antics. This album totally changed my mind about Kanye West. Before the release of this album, I thought he was just another rapper trying to get fame and money and wasn't a true artist. However, one day I was on YouTube and I saw the Runaway video (the longest one, which features all the songs in the album) on the recommendation bar, and I decided to give it a chance. I was extremely shocked at how good he was. After that, I bought MBDTF. This album is truly one the best I've heard. It is perfectly produced, the lyrics are deep and it really reinvents the term Hip-Hop. It's a shame that this album wasn't nominated by the Grammys for Album Of The Year.… Expand

I wrote my initial review the day this album came out... i did not give it enough time to sink in... now that i have listened to the entire album 20 or more times i can comfortably say this... This is one of the best rap albums to ever come out and one of the best albums ever in popular culture. Kanye from beginning to finish delivers song after song of unique, deep and emotion. The beats are unique and rivaled by few, The direction of the songs themselves, filled with tangents of audio awe and the crisp, clean, and much of the time dirty lyrics make this album a sensation. We have never seen this side of Kanye West before. Sure in the past he has slowed down and made heartfelt and emotional songs but never like this. Because this album is focused on one thing, not his dead mother (rip) not his love that left him and not about child slaves who harvest diamonds. This album is 68 minutes and 42 seconds spent on Kayne, specifically his Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasies of his mind. I'm a huge kanye west fan, but this album does not deserve anything above an 8. Yes it has brilliant beats, fantastic features from the likes of Rick Ross and even the unexpected bon iver. But a classic implies that every single song was perfect, you can't honestly tell me that songs like hell of a life are perfect. You can't give me a reason why "who will survive in america" is good or interesting, or what even the purpose of it is? If you overlook kanye's lyricism, or lack thereof on this particular record then maybe its a 10, but for me its just a very good album that has been overrated.… Expand

Honestly, for the aggregate user score to be this low is a clear manifestation of contrarian ideation. On merit alone, this album warrants a 9.5/10 rating, and given its replay value, it deserves the solid 10. No other artist has been able to create a contemporary hip-hop album that's so circuitous, with its multifarious themes and many layers. People who denigrate this piece of music are the ones who haven't immersed themselves in the genre. I see Eminem's name being thrown around; listen, technically, Eminem is very gifted, but as an artist, he's always been limited. On social impact alone, he stands as a top-10 rapper, but when you juxtapose his work to the likes of Nas, Jay-Z, Biggie etc. - and Kanye, it's awfully narrow in scope. Perhaps Ye requires an audience with an eclectic taste? He polarizes those who disparage hip-hop, or those who consider themselves "purists" (the underground/old school hip-hop fan archetype). Regardless, this album -- given hip-hop's metamorphosis during the 2000s -- is nothing short of a masterpiece.… Expand

MBDTF is artistically the best rap album in a long time. The story is great, yet very weird. But Kanye can do what Kanye wants. The music, although, is not at Ye's peak ability. I'm waiting for more albums like The College Dropout.

This album makes my relize that Yeezy will never make a classics like Late Registration or College Dropout but pretty dam good albums like graduation was. This album is more like a peice of art so it's hard to pick out weak and strong tracks. It's a solid listen but some of the tracks just don't glisten like that others. Hip hop has changed so it's only naturally that the biggest stars will too. Not a bad album...a solid one but i just wish Kanye could get back into his old stlye but that will probably never happen. While this album was being recorded, Kanye came up with Good Fridays where he would realese new records Every friday and he did untill a month beofre his album was to be realsed and then he released Christmas in Harlem before the album dropped. Some of the tracks from Friday (Chain Heavy, Don't Stop (The seconed Child rebel soldier (Lupe, Pharell and Kanye) song), Christmas In Harlem, Lord Lord Lord) SHOULD HAVE BEEN ON THE ALBUM. The Joy, another great Friday track was realesd as a bonus track many months after November 22nd. But MBDTF is still a strong album some of my top picks are (Devil in a new dress, Power, Monster, See Me Now, and Gorgeus). The album may as well have been called "Kanye West". That's the point of the record here, the rapper/artist points the finger on himself and jumps under his own lyrical microscope and explores the world he lives in from a bird's eye view. Fascinating results.

Better than Watch The Throne one way and bad in another. Lacking Jay-Z skills but still keeping true to the Kanye format. Good album but could have been better.

My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy has one of my favorite songs! All of the Lights rocks! (reached #18) I hope he makes songs like All of the Lights again!

I just wanna quickly say that this album is fantastic, it's like experiencing the wonder world of Kanye. 10 points, Kanye has proved that he is on top of his game, he is a music genius, both in lyrics and production.

I personally liked My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy to be honest, I hope that Kanye keeps making good music and keeping his fans happy in that regard.

One of my favourite albums of all time, Kanye West will never cease to rid us of his creative genius. Like his previous albums he's used samples brilliantly and tastefully on almost every track on the album, but does it in a way that it's not blatantly apparent to the listener but still pays homage to the original. I have yet to find a single low point on the album as each song is unique in it's own way. Not a song to be skipped on this album purely due to the fact that West has mastered each track to it's peak of perfection. My personal favourites are 'Dark Fantasy' due to it's ostentatious yet elegant nature and to how well it sets the general tone of the album, 'Power' due to how efficaciously it lives up to it's title, 'All of the Lights' because of how well it was put together, 'Monster' for making me feel guilty yet humoured and amazed when listening to it, 'Runaway' for showing us how effective simplicity is (with a few drops of genius) and 'Lost in the World' because not everyone can turn a slow and calming Indie sample into an upbeat and hard hitting piece that ends an opus with a BANG. That being said, every song on the album is worth multiple listens. Kanye has exceedingly fulfilled his primary objective; out-doing himself… Expand

Amazing. KanYes 5th studio album is near perfection. Once again he has evolved as an artist, keeping his songs fresh and new compared to his previous work. This is a classic, and definitely one of the greatest rap albums created.

First, this album was so over-hyped and it was not as groundbreaking as critics make it out to be. I honestly am happy for Kanye but the beats are overlong and the album begs for a closer after runaway. After 9 minutes of almost uninspiring lyrics it finally closes (thank God). I just wish Kanye would bring something worth speaking highly of. I like him as a person but until he stops being rapping so selfish and material obsessively I will avoid his music forever.… Expand

Feels a little overrated, a litte overambitous, but overall probably his best work. Kanye is a very talented artist and all his talents shin on this album. It took me a couple of listens before I got hooked.

I thought no album could be as good as something like "teen dream" of beach house of or "age of adz" of sufjan stevens put there was.

The greatest album of the decade. The greatest hip-hop album of this era, the era post Biggie and Tupac. Production-masterful, beautiful, stunning. Lyrics-incredible, smart. Plethora of guest stars, including Jay-Z, Kid Cudi, Rihanna, etc. Check. Kanye's true masterpiece with which he shows that not only did he reach his mentor Jay-Z, but he surpassed him. The album with which he shows he is the leading force of not only hip-hop, but the leading artist of the music scene today. When you are able to spill your heart and soul like he is in an album, you know you are truly great. 11/10!… Expand

Quite simply put : This is Kanye's greatest work, his masterpiece. The amazing detail he put into production and the amazing lyrics, this album quite deservedly won the love of critics all over the world. One of the greatest albums of hip-hop and the greatest album of this decade. From "Runaway", the incredibly simple, yet incredibly deep song, in which Kanye warns his love of his faults and in which he spills his soul, all the way to "Gorgeous" where he shows his great talent of making those incredible lines, that incredible lyrical talent, making it sound so easy. The singles are pretty acceptable but I still wonder about all the hype concerning the other tracks. Completely outrageous, terrible... The matter is not West's ego or his attention-seeking behaviour with his lyrics (alas, which are not even a bit intelligent like almost every critic praise)...not even about his wannabe-indie attitude... it's about his music, which is so avant-garde (??...well, yeah, according to some people) that my ears can barely listen to it. Lyrics: full of clichès, inconsistent, derogatory... It's a real mess and quite clearly the most over-rated thing of the year and maybe of the decade.… Expand

A fantastic album! Kanye shows his skills lyrically, emotionally, and shows where he is mentally. Luckily, he is in a good place. Even after a year of being out, I still play this often. Truly well done!

1. Dark Fantasy : One of the best intros I have heard in a while , from the huge intro to the RZA assisted piano beat this song is just one of the main reasons to own a car with a crazy sound system.

2. Gorgeous : One of the album's more lyrical songs over a menacing guitar loop. One of the highlights of this song is the breakdown that comes in the second half followed by a Raekwon verse .

3. Power:

The album's first single . This song was the first snippet of the album that we received , the chanting and clapping are as if a hero had returned are a long absence and is being welcomed home accordingly.
The militaristic beat and guitar riffs just give this song that triumphant feel or should I say 'theme music'

4. All of the lights [Interlude] : The prelude to the album's most grandiose effort , unlike the track that comes after this one this is filled with soft keys and cello that get you ready for what's to come

5. All of the lights : As I've said before this is the album's most grandiose effort , blaring horns , non-stop drums and percussion and over 11 vocalists on one track all lead by Rihanna who delivers the infectious chorus.

6. Monster :

The bass filled track that host's verses from Jay-z , Rick Ross and Nicki Minaj is full of lyrics that boast braggadocio and keeps you bobbing your head from the menacing start to the Justin Vernon ending

7. So Appalled: Another posse cut featuring the likes of Jay-z ...again , Pusha T , Swizz Beatz and G.O.O.D Music newcomer CyHi da Prynce. This song is line after line of lyrical genius .

8. Devil In a New Dress:

One of my favourites off the album , this Smokey Robinson song is just smooth Kanye raps about relationship falling apart followed by a guitar solo provided by Kanye's right hand man Mike Dean , then a surprisingly great verse from Rick Ross.

9. Runaway :

One of the album's most emotional songs which is sung over an emotionless key-driven loop and a Pete Rock sampled beat which has Kanye toasting to the 'Douchebags and **** The song ends with a 3 minutes vocoder solo bursting with emotion .

10. Hell of A Life : Hell of a Life has Kanye rapping about how he wishes to marry a pornstar over a really heavy sample while interpolating Black Sabbath's 'Iron Man' for the chorus .

11. Blame Game :

This Aphex Twin sampled beat showcases Kanye's frustration with fame , relationships and love while being assisted by John Legend and an outro by Comedian Chris Rock

12. Lost in the World: The grand finale of the album using Bon Iver's 'Woods' as the building block for this song . West's verse is full of dichotomy and hopes for leaving a 'plastic life' .

13. Who Will Survive In America

I view this as the album's epilogue with social commentary given by Gill Scott-Heron and ends with clapping to tell you that the show is over .… Expand

Best album ever. Every track is amazing and well produced. Although I was not a huge kanye fan before I got this album, I think I am now, and this could quite possibly be the best album ever.

This album is a perfect balance between the musical Kanye and the lyrical Kanye, MBDTF is Kanye's best work to date. It is not my favorite album of his, and over the years many have wondered whether he would release an album that could easily be considered as 'better than College Dropout', but I believe he has done it. I've spent almost a year with this album, and my opinions have varied, but the genius behind these songs cannot be overlooked, please ignore other negative reviews, because it is obvious when they are flawed by hate (what albums actually get 1's and 2's?). Songs such as Gorgeous and So Appalled are filled with some of his smartest and hardest verses since Dropout. Appearances by several artists, as well as some of his best sampling, and hard hitting singles such as Power and Monster make this album a must buy for anyone who is not a close-minded music listener. There are two gems in this album however, which stand out to me the most, Runaway and Lost in the World. At first, they were not my favorite, but as I continued to listen to the album, those two songs came out and really spoke to me. I think anyone can love this album.… Expand

Very well produced album, but definitely not the best album of 2010. The high points were very high, while the low points were...very low. I do have to give credit to Kanye's impressive musical knowledge and very well done sampling.

Just when I was ready to count Kanye out of the game - let's face it, it's a long fall from The College Dropout to 808s and Heartbreak - he delivers this, probably the strangest and most unpredictable album mainstream hip hop has ever seen. If any album can be called "art rap," it's this one - you certainly wouldn't hear a four-minute guitar solo on a Lil Wayne song, now would you?

Many people that reviewed this album seemed to have bias opinions when honestly this album was amazing. there's a reason why critics gave it such good reviews. THE SOUND!! putting the lyrics aside as they were good, but nothing to special. the sound and production of this album was perfect. he absolutely perfected the production, and the sampling was awesome. Pretty much every song had an amazing hook and chorus that draws the listener in to listen to more. The album also had some elements of his last album "808's and Heartbreak" which i thought was awesome. The lyrics were really good too, but the production is what sent this album to amazing status. easily the best album of that year. Kanye once again did not disappoint. He may have a huge ego, but he makes up for it with his musical talent. Can't wait to hear more from him.… Expand

It's rare to hear an album with such diversity such as My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy. I think that's why I respect Mr. West so much, he has the guts to make an album the way he wants without any concern for how others will react. This album gets better with each track from the soft start of Dark Fantasy to the powerful end of Who Will Survive in America.

This album is very different to all of his other albums, in fact I would actually go on to say that it is far ahead of its time. This is by far, the best album I have ever listened to. The creativity and the topics that Kanye West brings on this album is just breathtaking. I can't wait for Kanye and Jay Z's next album Watch the Throne!!

What defines a perfect album? The question has been asked for years. It exists in the personal opinions of millions of musicgoers, whether its little girls who enjoy Miley Cyrus, or teens who listen to Lil' Wayne because they speak to him, or the estranged hipster listening to his favorite indie rock record on vinyl. My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy by the decade's most talented new rapper and producer, Kanye West, is the very definition of perfect. It is a hip-hop masterpiece, bridging the gap between old school hip-hop and modern mainstream and indie sensibilities. Fusing fashions, tastes, and thinking minds of various statures, BDTF is a record that deals with the very esscence of a flawed human being firing back on the world around him, it is a departure from the bad guy, and a start to a new villain, it asks the question, Why do I exist, and what good is there to be found in me? It keeps the train a rollin' and stops it all the while.
Please excuse my long rant, but MBDTF is quite possibly one of the best hip-hop records I've ever heard. It's one that both critics and simple listeners will adore, and it is an artists struggle to regain his ego from his peers and people. It does so many different things and does them on so many different grand levels. First of all, the beats and synths and all around instrumental work on BDTF is perfect. The production for the album is staggering, some of the best found on any record, ever. The song, "All of the Lights"is a perfect example of this with ten people singing at once, an orchestra striking trumpets and trombones in the background, timpanies and beats flaring about, all while Kanye West raps about the big city and his daughter's life. We find him contemplating his love life and his mistakes on "Runaway" all while firing back on the people who blew out on him on the Taylor Swift epidemic. Dark Fantasy asks the question "Can we get much higher?" and most definetely answers it. The quest spots are nailed excellently, ranging from Raekwon to Cudi, Beyonce to Pusha T, even indie kid Bon Iver! Even the auto-tuned parts, which I usually detest are found incredible on this piece of history. Top that off with Kanye West's old styles with new ways of getting them across with "Power" ranting about being kicked off his throne with King Crimson being sampled in the background. "Monster" sees him and friends ranting about hurting and killing and all dark fantasies are about. On Dark Fantasy we see West as the **** he's always been trying to shun away from, but finally accepts in full glory, we see a flawed man trying to improve all while a flawed past won't allow him. We see a man maturing even with darkness in the light, overall Kanye West's My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy is a deeply intricate hip-hop record and the best album of 2010. Simply and utterly perfect, it is the view of the modern world and the old one coinciding in the life of one man, his story, the stories around him, and the world he lives in, and is so brilliant.… Expand

Having read the glowing reviews and having listened to the singles, the album was disappointing to me. Most tracks are overlong and boring. "Runaway", however, remains one of the best tracks of 2010 and "Power" and "All of the Lights" are good as well.

This album's got great producing and the guests in this album are top notch. Power is the bomb!! So are the rest of the album but to me, the best song here is gotta be Lost In the World. The way he fuses the beats, the raps and the Auto-Tune (not to mention the number of guest artist) in this song is phenomenal. If I were to relate this album with a movie, it would be Inception. My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy takes Mr. West in a completely new musical direction than any of his other albums have taken him. My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy is as different from College Dropout as it is from 808s & Heartbreak, and that's what makes it absolutely brilliant. For those who are stuck in the past wishing for the "old" Kanye to return, need to look forward and see how brilliant Mr. West's new musical style is. WOW, MASTERPIECE, that's the only accurate way of defining this album, it is sick twisted and on that next level, Kanye West is a mad genius, who leads us into the realm of this inner most thoughts on an album, and has an album that you can simply enjoy, if you have 12$ you want to spend on music, spend it on this album!

People need to really carry out a lot of research before sharing their opinion especially in a review about this album. You need to keep in mind the meaning in his music, even though less emotional than his previous songs such as Roses or Hey Mama his music is a fine balance of intellectual and fun hip hop. He is oh so creative, and because he is a producer he know how to make his music real. He uses real instruments in his beats and doesn't use phony electro beats. He really knows how to make something of good quality, and in this case he has shown quality over quantity. He really made this album shine with his fun lyrically witty punch lines to his realism, and his message. He leaves his music up for interpretation, which makes it better because he is great with puns and one can only find more and more multiple meaning of the words he plays with. He is truly a creative mastermind. On the other hand I would say that he could have shorten a few songs by shortening a few peoples' rap parts in some of his songs, and instead make another track or two. Sometimes a song more than five minutes can get boring and repetitive.… Expand

Whilst some of it (power and gorgeous) becomes completely disengaging the other songs like all of the lights, lost in the world and dark fantasy create one of the best dark albums in years.

A masterpiece, no doubt. And while Kanye may be a little screwy in his public life, the album is not a mess. Music is Yeezy's reflection and hearing Fantasy makes you see what a whirlwind of emotions 2009-2010 had been towards him.

There are a lot of great tracks on here, "Monster", "Devil in a New Dress" and "Lost in the World" are the best tracks. I could see this years from now still being a good listen but it's not perfect. Tracks "Blame Game" and "Power" are incredibly listenable but are definitely the weakest tracks.

As a fan of mainly punk, hardcore, and modern rock, I am always open minded to listen to all types of music and see the creativity that is unique to each artist. The past decade I have been unhappy with most rap/hip-hop releases, and I have never found a rap album before this one that could equal the excellence of LL Cool J's "Mama Said Knock You Out". I am not even a real big fan of Kanye, but I am mesmerized by the beauty and excellence he has created on this album. The various styles that make each song unique, and the collection of guest artists were planned perfectly, and fit well with the messages he conveys in each song. The first time I listened to this I could just feel how much of his heart he put into this collection of songs, and I was not really even paying close attention to the lyrics. Some people may find much of the language graphic, but I feel that it actually enhances the feel and character, and is necessary to get his emotions released to the listeners. I personally think "Hell Of a Life" is my favorite song, followed by "Runaway"; however, the most passionate song that demonstrates the hurt Kanye has felt at one time or another in his life as well as many listeners is "Blame Game" - by far one of the most powerful ballads of any music genre released in the last decade. Chris Rock is excellent in his end-of-the-song diatribe phone call, and even with that humor added, it is blended well enough to not tarnish the best song Kanye has probably ever written. I feel this should be one of the 10 albums every music fan needs to hear before they die - even if you are not a fan of Kanye, this album deserves to be listened to because it will be a long time before another album with this type of perfection will be produced by anyone in the music industry. In a world where celebrities hide from the paparazzi and disguise their "pop" lifestyles in order to relate with their fans, Kanye West is really doing the opposite: His beautiful dark twisted fantasy about marrying a pornstar and divorcing her by the end of the night (Hell of a Life) doesn't really seem like a fantasy because for West it could very well happen - yet he manages to create a vibe that says otherwise, because his feelings as a sexual/normal individual (his Id) are always stronger than his boastfull self that knows of fame and fortune. That is what makes My Beautiful Dark Twisted..."Fan"tasty": Kanye West is able to portray his life as a public superstar figure honestly whilst still being a character that everybody can relate to. This is a skill Mr. West has had since the time he sang "wait til i get my money right" on Can't Tell Me Nothing although he already had enough of it: He walked in the shoes of a fan that might not, although he didn't step out of his own because wanting more money is a feeling that goes beyond numbers. My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy is a sonic collage of juxtapositions that aren't really juxtaposed because they interact with each other so well: West has the gift of making genre-less music that still holds some level of credibility in all of the genres it stems from: Having said that, this album (like most Kanye West albums with the exception of 808s & Heartbreak) is no less a hip hop album, in fact it's really as close if not closer to oldschool hiphop as it is to pop and rock. Not buying it? go listen to the hard hitting drums on Dark Fantasy which is a quarter of the album title. Twisted Fantasy is more hiphop than The College Dropout, yet it's so much more: The samples reach you in a way that rap usually can't even dream of, which is a surprise in that he uses samples that are quite unknown as opposed to the grandiose songs he would use on previous works (e.g. Diamonds are Forever - Shirley Bassey ). West's musical repertoire has definetly gotten bigger since then and now consists of much more than just adding drums and a baseline on his Akai Mpc 2000, although he at that exact time proved this by having score composer and multi instrumentalist Jon Brion co-produce the entire Late Registration. Common for both, but much more so on this album are the details that are small yet so significant. From Nicki Minaj giving her english accent over Mozart's Lacrimosa to Bon Iver's "at the mall there was a seance" over semi-dramatic violins, this is an album filled with layers that leave goose bumps on woman that have been lasered.… Expand
