While the Black Dahlia Murder have always been an impressive band, Nightbringers finds them on top of their game and performing better than ever before. The album has elements of their earlier material, but present them with a polished and perfected vibe across the board.

If you fancy darkness, BDM have upgraded their harrowing sound to embody the concept completely. Tracks like “Matriarch” will remind you what got you into melodic death metal in the first place, while “Jars” and “As Good As Dead” put the band’s diverse influences on display.

As displayed on Nightbringers, there's plenty of room left to explore and experiment inside their sound, while expanding its parameters. They've done both to excellent effect here.

The Black Dahlia murder has produced a surprisingly spectacular album this year. After they delivered great on Ritual, they releasedThe Black Dahlia murder has produced a surprisingly spectacular album this year. After they delivered great on Ritual, they released Everblack, while still a great album, it was not in the same league as Ritual. Then they put out Abysmal, which isn't a bad record, but it was by no means great. Just when you think The Black Dahlia Murder is running out of musical ideas, they shock you with Nightbringers. The album starts off with "Widowmaker" which is a very ferocious and possibly greatest opening song. You also have songs like the title track "Nightbringers," that build to an massive epic crescendo. Kings of the Nightworld is a song that you could picture a medieval army fighting a war too, because of it's comradely lyric, and song structure that plays like an epic. The Black Dahlia Murder is also one of the only bands that can right dark and gory lyrics (that are laughable in most Death Metal bands), and still maintain an poetic integrity. The production is also one their greatest, everything is mastered perfectly, and I was very surprised with how well I can hear the bass. This is possibly The Black Dahlia Murders best album yet.
