As far as the argument over whether Death Grips are indie rap's great, destructive Dada Art crew or whether they are just the genre's Spinal Tap, the excellent No Love Deep Web suggests they're the sophisticated former.

For the second time in one year, both on a large label and on their own, they've released a record ruthless and rewarding enough to animate that image.

Even at a meaty 46 minutes, the album still suffers from a feeling of writer's block.

It's relentless top to bottom, but if you can get beyond the occasional groaning psycho-sexual screams there's a whole alternate network Death Grips have created.

No Love Deep Web includes some of the group's most accessible material; "Lil Boy" and "Deep Web" are the type of glitch freak-outs over which Lil Ugly Mane acolytes and Crystal Castles fans can come together.

Nihilism doesn't even begin to describe the mood created by the skittering electronic drums, uneasy atmospheric noises and MC Ride's manic scream-rapping.

When this album hits, it hits hard, but for the first time in their career, the barrage is intermittent instead of constant.

His unfocused ire dominates every inch of space. It's frustrating because the best tracks here deftly whirl together seemingly disparate styles. [Dec 2012, p.61]

The record is certainly denser and more difficult to find an entry point into than either of its predecessors; but this is not remotely to say that their label made the right the decision. After several listens, a handful of stone-cold, diamond-hard gems present themselves from of a scree of electronic beats and stentorian rapping/shouting.

While No Love Deep Web is not the masterpiece The Money Store undeniably is, it still manages to be both a substantial step forward and, even more importantly, a work not easily forgotten.

No Love Deep Web continues Death Grips' death trip, and is another solid 47 minutes of artistic aggro.

No Love Web Deep is another scintillating missive from one America's most conceptually rich hip-hop acts.
  13. There's more space in these tracks, and unlikely hints of sweetening both orchestral and distaff that come as laugh moments whether the lunatics running the asylum think they're funny or not.

From a production standpoint, this thing is solid, It takes the great production elements of both their previous albums and finds a nice combination. Another element that makes this album stand out is the lyrics, I can easily call this the darkest out of all the Death Grips albums. MC Ride's vocals stand out more as voice is less buried in the instrumental track, this reveals some pretty frightening lyrics that sound conceived from sort of terrible drug trip. The lyrics amplify primal desires of MC Ride's person even more. Overall this was a great album even if it didn't seem as consistent as the Money Store. Full Review »

The production seems way more stripped down and took a much darker approach. If The Money Store didn't seem to dark for you, No Love Deep Web will surely fix that. The best way I like to describe it is if The Money Store was MC Ride contemplating suicide, No Love is him actually committing it. The lyrics are in your face and as abrasive as anything this band has ever done. All In All, No Love Deep Web is an album full of fantastic ideas and from a band that just keeps getting better.
