The self-proclaimed King of the South addresses his troubles on tracks like Welcome to the World and Castle Walls.

It's well crafted, but some of T.I.'s best lines obscure the tracks' fuzzy thinking.

The album's top heavy, and its finest moments come when T.I.'s able to look past himself, whether it be to attack the legal or education system. The rest is frustratingly mixed.

No Mercy is the sound of a rapper addressing his idiocy without sacrificing his swagger. Sometimes, the gravitas feels perfunctory, like T.I. is just fulfilling a public-service requirement; other times, it totally backfires.

No Mercy is a valley, not a peak, in a career that has seen plenty of both.

Mostly, the album shows that T.I.'s lyrical side is not worthy of much attention.

The electricity that defined T.I.'s early career-dexterous lyricism molded effortlessly to trap rap essentials -- feels further away than ever before.

    No Mercy: TI

The creation of No Mercy definitely had its ups and its downs. After the title of the album had changed three times and TI being released from prison, there was a lot of hype built up for this album. Although TI was in jail, he had most songs on this album already recorded. The pre-recorded songs were the only decent songs on the album because it just seemed as if he wrote the newly recorded songs in a fifteen minute span. Signing a record deal as a young teenager right off the streets of Atlanta, there is a vast improvement in his lyrics and you can see the maturity that he has gained. The album has a recorded fourteen songs and only four that TI sings solo. Eleven songs having guest singers, TI had some good friends because they sure helped him out. A four song album probably wouldnâ

The opening track withI'll get through the positives first: This relatively mediocre album from T.I. is pretty much ran by his guest acts. The opening track with Kanye and Cudi is a solid track, if only for those two being on it. And "That's All She Wrote" is the shining light of the album, with phenomenal turns by both T.I. and Eminem (Kind of like how Eminem helped make the only good track of Lil' Wayne's Revolver). Other than that, nothing is memorable and special, and it lacks any particular density (Paper Trail lacked density as well, but managed to overcome this problem with solid production and singles). The album is not really worth revisiting, other than "That's All She wrote". Expand
